CB's On or Off

I rarely ever have the CB on when I'm driving, due to the stupid #### that's going on the air waves. Now after seeing these past few news accidents, about cresting hills and slamming into the rear ends of the lines, I'm starting to think that I better keep it on. But, god I'm tired of listening to the swearing and threats that goes on, then some jerk gets tired of it too, and then starts playing music on it.

I once left my partner at a WalMart, as he was watching me leave and tried to run and catch me. I was to fast for him I guess, and all the truckers were on their CB's trying to get my attention, to no prevail. I was only heading down the road for 8 miles for our pickup the next morning. My partner got a ride from sombody and caught up to me, before I got into the yard, shoot, I thought he was going to be pissed, but we got a good laugh out of it.

We did have a system, if your in the bunk, keep the curtains closed, if you get out, leave the curtains wide open. When I got into the truck, the curtains were closed, so I went on my way. Now we do that, and throw the Quallcom on the drivers seat, which works great, new system.

I guess if I had the CB on, I wouldn't have left him behind. Any intakes on this CB, being on or off.

I leave mine on but with the sql adjusted so only picks up close range "noise" and leave it up just enough to hear it in the background so I can "tune it out" but can still faintly hear for if something catches my attention..... I did this while on a truck as well as when cruising around in my 4-wheeler it's kinda the best of both worlds... Now when ppl on it get too obnoxious I do just turn it off for a few miles then turn it back on to hope they are out of range

No Prob between the CB method and ya'lls new method for keeping track if your both on the truck or not ya shouldn't leave eachother behind anymore LOL !!!!

Mine is on 99% of the time. You never know when you might get some useful info that could prevent a major tragedy. After a while you get pretty good adjusting the BS filter.

I realize quite a few new drivers are taught to turn it off when in a TS. To myself, that's a dumb thing to do. Sometimes an accident, no matter how minor could have been prevented if the guy manueverring had the radio on. A few weeks ago I watched a Werner take out another guys mirror. I must have called him at least 5 times to tell him to stop, but with the radio off, like he was taught he said, he never heard me. He did say he'd take my advice and have it on from now on out.

I agree with this.
I find it funny when the highway gets shut down and all the drivers who have there radios off then try to find out why is the road shut down..

Newbies having their radio on while backing at a t/s or anywhere else is a double edged sword... It comes in handy for someone to hollar when/if the driver is screwing up... but at the same time I have heard many drivers giving ones having a hard time a ration which can make them nervous and cause them to screw up even more... It'd be better to get out and help guide them instead of them trying to concentrae while getting ridiculed over the CB at the same time....

Yeah it is pretty funny specially when ya can hear drivers giving a heads up about it miles before you even come up to the incident from they guys heading the opposite direction.... At the same time there tends to be so much BS and ppl just being annoying that you can't hear that there is something going on anyways... its that 50/50 thing LOL but thats why I keep it on low at least to possibly hear something is ahead...

I also like nighthawks idea. Squelch it up so only those in close range come thru. Or turn it off if it gets too annoying and then turn it on when you think you might be past it.

CB disc jockeys and CB rambos aren't much different than the guy that gets on an internet message board/in an internet chat room to start trouble.

Yeah, it's a shame some people have to act a fool on the cb. I usually start out with mine adjusted to where I can hear it at a good distance. But, after listening to somebody tell their life story, or some fool playing music or acting a fool, I end up turning the volume down.
Of course, when I come upon an accident, or backup, do I realize the volume is turned down. Then, I'm one of the guy's asking what happened?

I prefer music over CB chatter...

But if I am in an area that I do not know then I will turn it up
