| Galaxie 959 question I recently aquired a 959, and I looked in manual for info about the "RF POWER" knob. I couldn't make sense of it, so I asked c.b. guy. I still don't get it!!! Why is there a RF GAIN and an RF POWER knob? The RF POWER knob doesn't seem to do anything. What is it for?! I sure like the radio though. It pulls in signals ALOT better than my Cobra 29 does. |

| I know what the rf GAIN is, but I don't know what the rf POWER is for. Sorry I didn't make myself clear! I've never had a radio with an rf POWER knob before. Thanks |

| I see. Thank you very much! So does a LOWER set dead key strength sound better to other drivers than a higher setting? Thanks again. |

| The RF power is used to lower your deadkey so you can run a linear amp safely. Otherwise you'd have to pay a CB shop to drop your deadkey down when running an amp so you don't destroy the amp. |

RF Gain is a traditionally mis labeled control, it should be labeled RX Gain (for receive) , that would make more sense. The RF Power is the variable power output, "1" is low power and this can be set from 1 to 4 watts and then "10" is the power output on high, this can be set from 15-25 watts. Factory setting on the Galaxy 949 and 959 is 3 watts on ow and 4 watts on high. Of course the high and low power setting is something that I have to adjust on the inside of the radio. |

| Thanks a lot for the replies. That makes sense now! So It don't matter where I turn the knob, since I don't run a linear. |
| |||
| That's right, if you don't use a linear, run it on full 10. |
