Probably not a radio failure then. But keep it in mind if all other troubleshooting methods don't solve your problem.

Does it go away when the truck shuts off?

No, I think my setup is just being very sensitive to the conditions. I unhooked my coax from the radio and it went away. Changed out coax and antenna and still there. I noticed flipping through the channels that most channels other than 19 had a lot less white noise and today it was considerably less. I think my setup is just being very sensitive. It must be it's time of the month, but I thought General Lee was a man .

I noticed mine picks up a lot of noise but running way out in the country it gets so quiet that I can turn the squelch all the way off and not hear any static at all.

Does it happen all the time ? There has been alot of skips in the last two weeks. For me it has started around sunset. and i get the same noise.
I live in north ga and tonight talked to someone in Tampa Fl I never thought i would ever talk that far in my truck it was pritty cool
But geting back to the noise I have the same probblem some times But only when a skip is happning
If not the skip causing try grounding your antena mount to your door frame.
Good luck

Some antennas pick up ground noise a little better than others, but I'm not sure which ones. I use steel, because that's not only pretty indestructible, but has great recieve. Look at cop radios, taxi's, motorola company rigs, etc. - always steel antennas. I think this is where the supposition comes from that steel pick up more ground noise: they pick up more everything. IME.
