LOL ! Amen to that. You have to get on the radio, key the mic and act you own the entire band, then people will assume you're not a newbie to the hobby LOL

A radio shop in Ga. told me there is some cycle we are coming into with the sun that makes radio frequencies travel better. That means you will more easily talk "skip" and you will also receive more interference for the next couple years. We had this back in 99-2001 also.

Yep were coming into the cycle. When it gets full strength it's supposed to be so crazy you'll hardly be able to talk to anyone close range but will be able to talk to people all over the country and with the right equipment all over the world :biggrin_2551:. They say this will be the heaviest cycle in a few decades. I personally hate skip conditions but some people are obsessed with having there numbers/name called. :biggrin_25512: But with right equipment (a little fire in the wire ) you can blow right through the skip in a local conversation! :biggrin_25525:

But on a more serious note...

What IS the way to catch drivers' attention,(or CB'ers for that matter),in an emergency?

The story I'm about to relate happened some few years ago..but I'm willing to bet that it happens more often than we think..

My family lived out in the country,, we(I) could not afford a landline.
My main means of communication was via my "base station" CB...weak antennae, could get into town, BARELY, but US 46 in southern Indiana was very close to home.

I was suffering a miscarriage, I was BEGGING for a "break", on 19, and all other call channels..

Without going into detail, 4 HOURS later, I FINALLY got a "break" from a OTR driver, who called family, ambulance, etc.

The "locals" who were on the CB? NEVER even acknowledged my "break! 911!" call.
