My setup right now is a Galaxy 44 with a Palomar 225. It works great and I get out fine but came across a Palomar 400 at the CB shop that I use. The tech wants $250 for it. I didn't know if this was a good price or not.
My other question is, a guy I know said that a Palomar 300 could do basically as good as a Palomar 400... so, should i try for a 300 instead? and what is the price difference between a 300 and a 400...
One more question, any particular website that usually has some good deals on linear amps? I'm looking to replace my 225 in my Chevrolet Colorado pickup.

You will not notice a differance between the 225, 300 or the 400. It takes four times the power to be twice as loud. Do the math, the first steps are easy. Save you money.
-
Ok then, what would you suggest if I was going to upgrade from a palomar 225 on a mobile radio?

Get a 1x4 dave made or Xforce. for under $350.00 you cant do any better and this amp will run off of a stock alt no problem. You should see around 700 to 800 watts from it. I run a D/M 1x4 and with 25 watts drive and a 4 watt key i see 800 watts all day!
As far as the power goes. It takes 600 watts to for the person your tallking to see a 3 s unit ( if say they are 100 miles from you) increse in signal strenth. After that you have to double your power for them to see a 1 s unit increse in your signal strenth. A amp does not make you louder. It is only to help you talk father away. If an amp makes you sound lounder it is because it is amplifing the over modulation from your radio. -
Where can I get a 1X4 dave made or an Xforce? I have never heard of either one of those.
Also, is there anything you can get for your radio that increases your "ears"? -
That Fire Stick and Mic your running is definitely holding back what you already have. Use Google to find the amps your looking for.
If you go to DaveMade's page there is a breakdown of all the mobile units
it will give you an idea of the choices available.
DaveMade's require a very low dead key(1-3 watts)
The DM - M400 is a real nice unit and most definitely "spits fire" !
I'll send you a link to a forum that can help you understand
what you need.

What's wrong with my antenna and mic?
-
If it still is not where you want it then try a wilson 5000 mag mount and put it on top of the truck, dead center in the roof. This will cause your antenna to receive and transmit in in all derections, not just front to back or side to side.
Yes it does make a big difference where you mount your antenna! -
All fiberglass antennas are limited on capability. A good coil antenna with steel whip, properly setup, will drastically increase your TX/RX distance and clarity.
If you want to run power you definitely need to switch antennas. Even for that little palomar box.
