    Ranger SS-158EDX question.

I've heard of other truckers who use this type of radio because the CB AM (11 meter) is full of junk and too much traffic from non-truckers. Is there a freq. guide to know what freqs. are used by truckers in various parts of the country???

Thanks for all the input. Since it's illegal, I won't purchase one.

Using the channels other than the CB channels without a license is illegal (got that out of the way). Channel 19 is the main trucker channel, although I've heard that in the I-5 corridor it changes around because of the base stations dominating 19. There is a lot of garbage on 19 sometimes, but I've never had a problem finding another legal CB channel to have a less interrupted conversation on, like for running an oversize load with an escort.

I got one, sure love that thing!! My first one was quite drifty, but i'm on my second now and it is one cool radio! Only thing I wish it had is variable power, but it does fine without it. A great purchase, especially for the price! I am a SRA-158 fan, sorry for those who arent, but I run it with either that or an RK-56.

Not exactly. This might have been true back in 1977-78-79....but today not that many "4 wheelers" run CB's. So for the most part, 19 might have junk from time to time but the other 39 channels are usually silent. Now during skip conditions, when all the CB radio hobbyists (not truck drivers) start getting on, the airwaves will be semi busy, and that's when i believe some try to migrate to other frequencies (which are not legal) to talk.

it's not like you'll be caught as long as you stay within 40 chan up or down of the regular 40, you especially will have a hard time getting caught if you never venture out of the regular 40. Just be responsible and dont run crazy amounts of power what will get you in trouble.
