Someone's not as much of a radio operator as he claims if he doesnt understand you have to tune most CB antennae for SWR match. Its even stated very clearly in the paperwork that comes with the antenna how to do it and why. Failure to do so best case means you're wasting output energy and worst case can (rarely) blow the finals in the radio. The only antenna I'm sure of that doesnt need an SWR match it is a Francis. (sp?)

I agree with Turbo T... the Cobra 25 is a far better choice than a 19 for not much more $$. The newer 19's are lightyears better than the originals but the sound quality is still #### unless you invest in a speaker.

And on the subject of mounting holes.... sometime in the last 10,000 years of human history some smart homo-sapian needed to mount something in a hole that was too large and invented a..... bushing. Shocking I know but true none the less.

They provide a valued function. I am simply saying the 19 is a fine radio for someone starting out that doesn't want a big radio. If you read his post he was new into CB and didn't even no that was an NMO Mount on his truck. I doubt he is looking for a Galaxy 949 all tricked out. Believe it or not that 19 isn't a bad little radio and you can tune it to 15 watts modulation.

Some of you CB’ers are so quick to jump down a hams throat. There is no reason for it. CB’ers are happy with limited power over 40 designated frequencies, and hams like to run up to 1500 watts of legal power over hundreds of thousands of frequencies over 15 different band plans. There is nothing wrong with either one, I have nothing bad to say about any CB’er except the channel 6 gang who never shut up and never talk a word of English.

Calm down my god. You wonder why people think CB’ers are nothing but low life’s. When you react over something like that, it make people wonder when in all reality you most likely are good people. Calm down and enjoy the radio for god’s sake.
For someone who was quick to bash me for the good advice I gave, you sure are back peddling when I stood up to defend myself.

Quick to jump down a ham's throat? Where did anyone anywhere in this thread bash on a ham operator? Why was that topic even brought up? In fact why did you even post:

??? That's totally irrelevant to this thread. And FYI you should know there's no such thing as "over 40 frequencies" allotted to the CB band. There's 40.

Just because you drive a truck and own/operate a CB doesn't mean you know more than someone else about them. In fact many truckers I have met really don't know all that much about CB radios other than they're used to talk to people. Some of them "think" they know but really don't. That's why some of us radio enthusiasts are here....to help those that are not sure.

Also the two radios I mentioned, the Cobra 25 or the Uniden 68, ARE NOT by any stretch of imagination considered "big radios". They're good radios that surpass the performance of a Cobra 19 DX IV.

Read that as "over the range of 40 frequencies". Also there are 45 designated frequencies (channels) in the 27Mhz CB band. The extra 5 are between 3-4, 7-8, 11-12, 15-16, and 19-20. Any real ham radio along with many export radios can access the hidden channels.
