    NO PROBLEM ..

I do not make my living on CB radios and what i say is based on almost 50 years on being in the hobby and working on the radios.

ok i just off off phone with the local shop that does all the cb mods here , he said stright out save your money , he will take it if i want but on my grant LT her said just peek/tune it to 16-18 watts check a few things and thats it , changing the 2Sc1674 to a 2sc2229 i ask about he said oh geez dont belive everything u hear on the internet , but my thoughts are is everyone is changing that out for a better recieve. is he jsut being honest with me or doesnt wanna work on my grant lt i got 150 bux sitting here to get this all done i told em , he said save it toss me 65 for the peek and tune thats all you need done. ,,

he also mentioned that dosy meters are "dosy" and wont read the true power output , which i dont get cause dosey are one of the most popular ones out there.

this guy isnt some backyard hack guy he ben in the bisness for a long long time.

    any insight on this ?

He dosn't see money in or dosn't want to mess with your radio ....

The Mod to change the 2sc1674 to a 2sc2229 is WELL KNOWN ! I measured my on a IFR-1200S test station ( $15,000 new ) at 6 db better and you will find MANY techs who will back up that number .... to him it is not worth one s unit but if your tring to hear a station on very quite night it IS worth that one s unit .....

He is being strate on the transmiter power you will not get much over 15 watts from a 2sc1969 final ..... and as for the meter it depends on what power measurement your using PEP/AVG ...... NOTHING WRONG with those meters not for someone just wanting to check the radio .....

Take your $150 and go buy a nice 100-200 watt amp and use the preamp in it for receive and the extra power to talk to who ever you want to ....

to change the 2sc1674 to a 2sc2229 , is just a single diode isnt it ? . i got good soldering skills and could swap this part myself , only thing is , if there are any other adjustments taht need to be done after swapping this , is where i woulnt want to play with , if its as simple as just a swap out , then i can get him to tune it up for me and i wil just do that part myself after, just have to locate one.

    Grant LT info.
Did you check CB tricks .com? http://www.cbtricks.com/radios/uniden/grant_lt/index.htm

Lots of great info here! http://www.geocities.com/cobra269/

I still think you should save your money and get another radio. like this one,http://cbradiomagazine.com/November%202007/Ranger%20RCI%20Superstar%20SS-158EDX%20Review.htm

They run around $225.00 and have everything you want from the factory. People say good things about this radio.
