Blue Streak

Blue Streak

Located about 15 minutes from my house in Verbena, AL. The guy has a big one room building in his backyard with a base station set up. I went their first and bought a Palomar 225. Just recently got my Galaxy 979 and he replaced and upgraded the finals and tested the radio making sure it was on frequency and it works great. A lot of people use this guy. He goes by the handle "blue streak" and you will know it's him if you hear a high pitched "toot toot" on the radio. LOL. The guy has an extensive education for working with radios as well as experience as a radio operator and repairman in the Navy for many years.

He stays on channel 20 most of the time but if you are ever around Chilton County Alabama, just get on channel 19 and ask for Blue Streak. Someone will answer back and tell you how to get there or he might be on 19 and answer you. lol

You have a common case of feedback,
hold your mic about 12" away from the radio(facing the radio)
Key the mic and move it towards the radio.
When the squeal starts turn your mic gain back as you move closer to the radio.

Or . . . .
Remove the speaker side of the radio case, clip the wire going to the speaker.
Now you must run an aftermarket external speaker.

OR...!!!
Take the radio to a better shop and have it tuned "properly"
a well tuned radio should not squeal on its self running wide open.

CB shop that i cant remember the names of.
There is a CB shop just out side of Denver CO. If you coming west into town there is a Sapp Bros truck stop on the north side of the interstate. You get off of the ex and turn right then left at a stop light to get to the T stop. On the right side of the Rd,across from the T stop there is a high rise building,i think his shop is on the first or second floor.

(Now this has been years ago and he may no longer be there.) I had an older Connex that wasnt working so i stopped by one day to see if he could fix it and after about 2 hrs he could just not get the radio to work correctly,i was pressed for time and could not wait any longer. He told me that the next time i came back into town he would work on it for me and see if he could find the problem. It took 2 more trips for him to get it straight, cant remember what was wrong with it. He did not charge me a thing and even took my wife and i out to lunch because it took him so long to fix it. I still have the radio, it works great and i would not think twice about letting him work on another one!
The guy you are talking about in Denver is still around. The building he was in was sold to a drug rehab place and he moved. If you go across hwy 270 from Sapp bros. to the East side T/A truck stop on Quebec street and go out their back gate you will be staring at the front door of Summit Radio. The guys name is Chuck and he does a great job. He is the only tech who will ever work on anything of mine. He repaired radios when he was in the Army many years ago and is a real licensed radio technician. As far as I know, he is the only guy doing radio repair in the Denver CO. area that can say that. You will never go wrong taking something to him. Just my .02 I have been a customer of his for the last 10 years or so.

My experience with Sparkys

After doing some research I decided I would go with an rfx75 29 or a good export. I called up Sparkys and spoke directly with Al (Sparky) about my concerns and questions I had. He's a very nice guy and was more than willing to answer all questions I had and give me his recommendations. The first thing he asked me when I mentioned the rfx 29 was about the mounting location, which was going to be my first question for him regarding it. With it being a cubby hole mount with no air circulation he felt that the rfx would get too hot, as I was suspecting. We talked probably about 10 minutes and afterwards I was pretty set on the general lee, top gun mods, and a rk56, but told him I was going to think about it and get back with him. I called him up the following day and ordered what we had talked about. With it being Friday afternoon he said it would be on the bench Monday and ship Tuesday, probably be at the house Friday. It didn't come in Friday or Monday so I called him Monday afternoon to check the status and come to find out the shipping label had gotten damaged and it was returned to him. He said he could have it to me Wed. by 1500, but I had to report back to work Wed. at 0900. Needless to say I was disappointed, but I think he was more pissed at the situation than I was. He offered a refund or to throw in some stuff for free. I just wanted what I had ordered from him and was hoping to get it before I hit the road or it would be Thanksgiving before I would be back by the house to get it. He was very upset by the situation and ended up pulling some strings, came in early, and personally had it shipped with an arrival time of 1000 Wed. I knew that once I got on the board at 0900 I would probably (hopefully) be sitting at the t/s waiting on a load. I arranged for my dad to bring me the radio as soon as it arrived and everything worked out well, except for the fact that my trailer was stolen from the t/s while I was on hometime . Everything was packaged and works great. This was my first time dealing with Sparkys and I haven't dealt with anybody else, but I would highly recommend Sparkys and will take all my future business to him. Sorry for the long post but I really appreciate good customer service, and work, and thought Al really did a great job in making a bad situation right, and also a great sounding radio.

I have done business with all these shops and they all do good work. I would not hesitate to have them work on any of my radios or setup. It has been several years since dealing with Steelrods but I assume they still do good work. I always had steelrod himself work on my stuff.
when i was running up and down I65 i heard alot of people complaning about steelrods. they was all useing the guy at the 240 exit behind the flying hook.

Well like I said been a long time since I have even stepped in steelrod's place just cause I haven't ran that route in several years. I always had good luck with his work no complaints from me but things can change over time so he may be just like some other places that used to do good work and just out for the buck now I don't know that's why I specifically said I had not done business with him in a long time.
