You should have the radio specifically matched to it, but in the case of your amp, you can connect a stock, un-tuned 148 and not hurt it. You may not get the best sound running wide open on the amp, and that's where having an o-scope comes into play. You can view the actual signal wave-form and adjust the variable on the amp for the best carrier-to-peak ratio.

That makes sense, dtb. My set up for years has been an older 29 classic that us matched with the 250 at a 2w dk and it's done me just fine. I like their amps.That 250 is 15 years old and has caused me 0 problems.

my technician taught kelly how to use an oscilloscope to do transmit but kelly never learned how to do receive properly so his radios don't hear very far.
