For a stock basic setup in a tractor/trailer it's hard to beat a cobra 25/29 or Uniden 68/78 with a 4 or 5 foot francis antenna and some decent coax like rg58.

The Cobra 29 has been the Staple of truckers radios for decade.

Simple Rugged, and has logged Billions of miles when compared to all the others.

I have a Cobra 19 Ultra III with a Cobra power mic that I run in my personal vehicle. Would this be an "ok" radio to start out with or would it be easier to just buy a 29? Thanks...

I'd buy the 29 over the 19 any day of the week. The 29 gives you more for your dollar IMO and besides CB stands for constantly buying so you'll eventually buy a 29 anyways.

since you already have the 19 thats fine. its not the best but ya do have it. if you were just starting out i would recommend the 29 for sure.

I had the 19 with a lil wilson mag mount as my first radio. then upgraded to the 29 and a K40 magnet. like it so much better

If your using an external swr meter it doesn't matter just have it on cb mode not pa. i always turn my mic gain or dynamike all the way down to the left so it doesn't pick up any noise at all when you key the mic.

If your using the internal swr meter you have to set the swr switch to calibrate, key up and adjust the needle till it hits on the red triangle at the right then flip that switch to swr and check your reading. do this on channels 1 and 40. you can also check it on 20 if you want but really don't need to if it's good on 1 and 40.
