Choosing the Best CB Radio

Posting info on another thread.

 

My all time favorite is a connex 3300 Hi-power or a General Lee or Grant and they are all the same.good dependable radios.

His gripe is I interfere with his 49mhz cordless phone ....

 

now thats funny.... but im glad to hear some ppl can last that long dealing with each other...
hell i cant even get on the house phone when the 11 year old daughter is home from school

 

Hey all, I want to buy a new radio for my next truck, and I want one with good range & power, clear comm's, good quality. Currently have an older Cobra 29wx?? that works good, been tuned, etc., but am mounting that in my Dodge. Honestly, I don't use the CB very often, can't stand to have it on most of the time, except during bad weather or bad road conditions, etc. When I am using it though, I want something that works-good. Don't mind spending some coin on it, but would like to keep it under $500 for radio, antenna & coax, etc. Although I've read on here its not the best way to go, I also want a weather feature. Got it on my Cobra, and other than scaring the ##### outta me once in awhile, have been glad to have it.
Whats my best combo here? I know this has probably been hashed around a million times, and everyone has their own opinion on what CB's are better than others, just need some advice. BTW, this is all going on either a Pete 387 or T660.

Oh, so you're one of those that has the CB off until you run into the brake check, slowdown or whatever, then turn it on and say " What's the holdup"? Just kidding, mostly, LOL.
I just had to do that.
Now, on either of those trucks I think you may windup having problems with where to install the antenae, and find a good ground. Had a T600 for awhile, and no matter what I did, I was never satisfied with the SWR's.
Hopefully someone will reply with better info.

 

Get what ever radio you want like a Galaxy 95T or Connex 4600 turbo and then a good scanner so that you will have all the weather channels you want. That would eat up that $500.00. Your not going to find one of the big radios like Galaxy or Connex with the weather band so if thats what you want then your going to have to get a scanner.

Most of the weather band radios work but not that great.

 

j-d: yep, that's me lol. Normally after about 10 min of listening and/or conversating, I want to rip the radio out and risk a littering ticket when I toss it out the window. The stupid b/s just gets to be too much. Once in awhile tho, end up driving gobs of miles participating or listening in on some really good conversation. But thats kinda rare.
Had a feeling I'd have radio issues with a 'plastic' truck, like the last one (9400i).

Thunder, you make a good point. More concerned with minimizing the amount of extra equipment than with cost, but...... I guess I'll plan on $1000 for radio/scanner setup.
Next ?, CB, SSB, 10 meter or? Thinking Galaxy 959 for CB after doing some research. Any thoughts anyone?
