CB is only 11 meter; 10 meter is a segment of the ham bands that requires a license. You can have a 10 meter radio converted to cover the 11 but you still have 10 which again is useless unless you have a ham ticket.

SSB is a nice way to talk distances (DX) but requires the other driver to have a SSB to use the SSB portion of it. (you can still use AM to talk to everyone else) Also with SSB you have to "tune" the other driver in or he'll sound like Donald Duck from being off frequency. Most truck drivers I know just use AM anyways so unless you're into DXing, a basic AM radio is all you need.

I have no experience with Galaxy, but the 959 will probably do you ok. Though Galxy SSB radios are known to drift on SSB, meaning you might soend more time trying to tune in the other driver than you care to do on sideband.

For a good starter radio I'll always recommend a Cobra 25 or a Uniden PC 68. If you want a slight touch of fancy above that, a Cobra 29 or a Uniden PC 78 are also good. For SSB I like the old Cobra 148's with the side mics.

Alright all you crazy truck drivers, help a greenhorn out. going to be starting my career soon, and i've been on the waves since i was a little guy with my father and his old Cobra radio.

I want to know what radio is going to give me good range, great clearity, and none of that Echo crap, if i'm gonna be talkin on the CB i want people to know what the heck i'm saying. now this is gonna to be going into a company truck so i'm not quite sure how much that will impact my purchase, but if i can get a few reviews from you great bunch of folks it would be much appreciated. have a good one and thanks in advance!

    Stay safe out there!

Roadking 56 mic, wilson 2000 series antenna, and even a cobra 29 properly tweaked and peaked and the antenna's tuned and you will have a good rig. Yes there are better radios but as long as you have a reliable cb guy set it up you wont go broke that way

Thank you Rocknroll nik, what's you're opinion on FireStik Ant's? my father runs one on his old pickup, seems to work alright, he's running an old Cobra from the 80's though so it's hard to tell for sure how great the antenna is.

Exactly firesticks are good but thy work best in a pair. With the wilson 2000 you only need one but most drivers have two for looks. Most only have one hooked up at a time.
I had a pair of firesticks and loved em till they broke (both of them) in an ice storm. That's one of the drawbacks to fiberglass antenna's.
