celadon runs Ontario and Quebec Expect long layovers to and from because I sat a lot waiting for clearance to cross even when the paperwork was sent ( by fax ) several hrs. before I got to my point of entry and if mr.wood is still the Canadian rep at the home terminal ? chances are its still screwed up.

I heard he's in Europe? Not sure if it's vacation or permanent.

It's not Mr. Wood anymore. Sometimes delays like that happen, but it's not normal.

Also, to the OP, Celadon requires company drivers to apply for passports - if your application gets denied you don't have to go. If you end up with a passport, you might be required to run Canadian loads from time to time

I don't doubt it. Canadian freight is increasing, but there's a relatively small number of drivers qualified for Canada. "Occasional" Canadian runs are more of an ideal than a reality, I guess. I know a lot of guys get stuck running the east coast and Canada sometimes.

Mary, not sure how rigid the 6 month requirement is... you may want to call recruiting directly. Even if you don't trust what they tell you about most things, they should give you a pretty good idea about whether they make exceptions.

    Krashdragon Thanks this.

I guess one of the gripes some drivers have is that they get sent to Canada too often. You get a load going up to Canada, hey no problem. Got a load coming back to the US, awesome. Next load....goes back to Canada. Seriously? Response from dispatch, "Well you're probably the only driver in the area who can run up to Canada." Lucky me.....

There's also a difference between drivers who cannot go to Canada (due to various legal reasons) and drivers who refuse to go to Canada. The ones who refuse are usually the most vocal about it during smoke breaks, like it's some major insult to being an American to travel out of the country for work reasons. I don't get it.

Yeah it's a valid complaint, but as far as I know the system assigns the load to the most efficient truck, so it may not be that you're the only truck around that can take a load to Canada, but you may be the only one within x number of miles that has the available hours and border crossing ability to make service on it. And that's definitely a real possibility, with capacity the way it is right now. There is an ongoing effort to get all eligible drivers to apply for passports so Canadian loads can be spread out more for those who don't want to go there.

There is another factor that is not stated and that is cpm. If there is a .34 cpm otr driver or a .40 cpm Candian Regional driver and all things being equal, the .34 cpm otr driver will go. It is always based on money with Celadon. Depending on the situation even a Canadian driver (from Canada) may be bypassed to give the .34 cpm otr driver the load. ie, from Indiana to Alberta or one of the other provinces. -- Sidebar note: Celadon goes to all the provinces.
