Welcome to Celadon!!!I've been with them for 1 1/2 years..Until recently I LOVED them. The miles were consistant, they take care of their equipment and the people I have dealt with have been great.

Recently though I have noticed the miles are going down. Yes, some of that we can expect this time of year. However, the miles have fallen off drasticly. The real camel breaking thing for me is that they have turned the trucks WITHOUT compensating the drivers. I don't hear the drivers discussing the money aspect of this decision though. I hear them grumble because the truck is so slow now but they have taken a pay cut!

As far as getting home on time.Only once since I have been here have I gotten home late. That is a very good record for Celadon to have.

The shop in Indy does leave a LOT to be desired. I avoid it like the plague. The way the priorty works in Indy for getting the trk into the shop is all trucks with a load and teams have priorty..Not sure his DM could help get him in the shop any quicker. If my trk needs work I try everything I know to get it to Waxahatchie. They listen and fix it.

I wish u and your hubby luck with Celadon..I am going to begin looking elsewhere I think.

Well, he did have a load. I think his DM had one lined up for him to take this morning but the shop couldn't get him out so she had to give him another relay trailer that came in this afternoon. He dropped one trailer that he brought that was passing through and was given another one heading to northern Indiana. They finally did get him out of the shop at 4:30 this afternoon. There were mechanics just sitting around doing nothing. And trucks to be worked on. They popped him right through inspection. In and out in like ten minutes. Then sit in the shop all day. Oh well, he's out now. But still, if it were me I would have went and talked to my DM about it. Not b***hed, but talked. Because if they would have gotten to it this morning, he could've been gone with a load this morning. I don't know how much pull she has in getting the shop cracking, but it doesn't hurt to find out.

It really seems the miles have been picking up so I am not sure about that comment as I could be wrong, just haven't heard any complaints. Take my advice and don't refuse any freight, if it's 200 miles or more or less take it to keep rolling! That always seems to help the driver make money. Make sure you are using your time wisely/logging etc and not always taking 34 hour breaks. I had a driver taking a 34 hour break every week, it wasn't from running to hard it was from his lack of understanding the regulations/logging, hopefully he will bring a better check home from now on after talking with me. that's what I am here for.

Don't give up yet, let me tell you many drivers leave for the same reason you are wanting to and well unfortunately they come back 2 months later to only say the grass isn't any greener on the other side and now they lost about 3 weeks of any pay and now must start all over again.

I am only telling you what I see, I shrug my shoulder when drivers quit and come back 2 weeks later thinking wow that other job didn't work out any better now I have to do everything all over again for him/her.

So hang in there and don't give up, however don't let your family starve thats the last thing I want. Maybe talk to the operations manager and see if they can come up with anything for you:biggrin_25525:

    Hey Logs,

Like I said I loved Celadon until they turned the truck down. No one in ops will address the issue of it being a pay CUT for the drivers. Wouldn't that be like going to the log dept. (or any other) and telling you we are going to have to cut your pay by $305.00 a month? That is a HUGE cut in my book.

The restarts I have gotten are the ones when there are no loads..I don't do restarts very well..I'm out to make money and sitting for a restart will NOT make me money!

As for accepting any load..I do that..Shoot, I didn't know I had a choice:biggrin_25520:And my thoughts are those customers are mine and they need their freight..I don't like the short runs but I do KNOW I have to take the good with the bad.

When I do leave it will be to improve. I am not going to jump without doing all I can to check the other company. I know drivers used to return to Celadon but can't imagine that now..Sometimes a company goes to far and the employees figure that out.

    Thanks for your input logs..

Well, he made it home from Indy. They gave him a short relay trailer run, then he came home. He actually got home Thursday around noon, instead of Friday. Of course he'll be going back on duty and leaving Sunday morning instead of Monday, but that's OK. He's HOME!!! And he got a great paycheck today. Over $700 bring home, instead of the paltry $200 or $300 we've been living on for so long. I know next Friday's check won't be as good, but that's OK, at least this week I have enough to make the car payment, and have grocery money too. And a little extra to buy some of the things that we are needing so bad. Like a new gate to keep boyo in the living room and not the rest of the house or the kitchen where the wood stove is at.

He's adjusting fairly well to being OTR. He thought it would be harder than it is to get used to. He's figured out it's not hard to eat right, even OTR. He keeps fruits, and healthy snacks in his truck, and when he eats at the truck stops, he's been watching what he's eating. Staying away from greasy, fried foods. Eating baked and grilled meats, salads, steamed veggies, and eating smaller portions instead of "super sizing" everything on his plate or going back to the buffet bunches of times. And drinking more water, usually with those crystal lite drink packs mixed in, staying away from soda, only one cup of coffee a day, and staying away from sweet tea. And boy has he lost weight. Just in two weeks I can really see a difference. Plus he says he feels better.

We'll see how his next trip out goes. Hopefully he'll get as good of mileage as he did this past trip. Of course, next time he comes home, we might have to go buy him new jeans since he's losing weight. What he has now is already getting loose on him. LOL!! Before much longer a belt isn't going to help.

So far the only gripe about the company as a whole is the shop at the Indy term. Which I've seen others on here post the same as well. But you can't have every thing roses. There's always going to be some bad with the good. However, I imagine not all the guys at the Indy shop are bad about getting things done. We had the same problem at the trucking company I worked at. Not all the mechanics would do the work. They'd "do it when they felt like it" and be ###### with the driver.

Well, he headed out Sunday to Indy to pick up an empty trailer to load in Terre Haute. On Monday. So he got to come home again Sunday night. Got loaded Monday morn for Laredo. Got down there this morning around 11 our time, told to take trailer down the road to the drop place. It's almost 1 now, so we'll see how long he has to sit and wait. I know some people have said that the Wax and Laredo yards you will sit at forever waiting to load out again. We'll see what happens.

Your hubby heard right..Wax and Laredo can be the places he will sit. Definately Laredo..I NEVER go in with fresh hours..With a little planning u can go in there needing your break and get in line for a load. Laredo is a good run when u need to do laundry and are ready for a good meal..

Well, he was loaded and out of Laredo at 1:30. Didn't have to wait long at all. Brought a transfer back to Indy this afternoon and now is loaded for east (yech I hate east) on Monday. So he's on his way home tonight. He'll be here till Sunday morning. Only a 600 miler to his Monday delivery, then we'll see what he's going to get next. I can't believe they're letting him come back west of Indy and come home when his load is heading east. That's cool though. I don't mind seeing him. Of course I always give him the pleasures of doing all the things he misses during the time he's gone (read changing poopy diapers on the baby) so he doesn't feel left out. :biggrin_255: Besides, I NEED a break from that sometimes. Whew. I love my son, don't get me wrong, but I can only handle so much **** (pun is heavily intended). LOL!!!

He didn't have to wait very long at Indy yard for inspection of the load he brought in or a new load assignment once he put in his availability either. His DM seems to be really on top of keeping her drivers going. Quite a few drivers there have told hubby that he got one of the best DM's in there. So far I'd have to agree. She's kept him moving without having to wait very long at all for a load assignment. Most of the time it seems like she's got one lined up as soon as he put in that he's empty. It sounds like she's one of the ones who knows how to pre plan her drivers efficiently, even if they don't do pre planning. I don't think they do, but I imagine the DM's have access to what loads are available in what areas at any time so they can pre plan to some extent.

I hope I'm not boring you all with the updates. I guess I just figure this will help add input for people researching Celadon as a potential employer.

Not taking up for the shop because I honestly do not go out there anymore to far of a walk for me :).

My hubby worked there years ago and there is trailer mechanics and there is tractor mechanics so maybe the one's sitting was the trailer mechanics or on break. Either way in my opinion they probably should not be sitting around making drivers feel that way but I can't say because they used to do that back in the days to.

But yeah you have to go through the inspection to make sure the equipment is ok and if it isn't you gotta get fixed before you can leave DOT regulations basically. I will bring this up to someone though and yes he could of nicely went to his dm and talk to her about it she might have been able to do something, not sure though.:biggrin_25511: Sorry
