Bluetooth Stereo Problem

    Don't know if this belongs in the Garage Forum or not but . . . got a 2012 Cascadia. It has the Delphi SMX radio with Bluetooth through the stereo. I'm running a Straight Talk Samsung sch-m828c Android. I can get the phone to synch (or whatever it's called) to the radio and do the call and I can hear the caller great through the stereo but they can't hear me at all. Period. Like a VOIP call with a dead mike on my end. Any ideas other than search the internet, look at the owner's/ instruction book or call Freightliner - did all that. Websearch was a bust, the instruction/ owners manual was useless and Freightliner shops want me to bring it in so they can diagnose and repair (at $110/hr plus parts). Where the heck is the built in mike that picks up my voice anyway. Thanks.

    Their are 2 kinds of Bluetooth. One is for phone calls and talking. The other is Media play back. Like you can play music from you phone to stereo. When you pair the phone to the stereo Bluetooth most time it will connect both Phone Audio and Media Audio but if the stereo does not have a microphone plugged into and some place in the truck, nobody can hear you but your phone will still have the Bluetooth Phone Audio connection. So you have first figure out if the stereo ever had a built-in mice hooked to it and if it some place in the truck. Or is it just Setup for Media Bluetooth in that case you will need add the plug in microphone for the stereo to pickup your voice. Just remember the microphone will also pickup all the background noise of the cab also, and that may make it difficult for people to hear you. If you wear the Bluetooth headsets they don't pickup the background noise because they are so close to you mouth. you can wear Bluetooth headset for phone calls then use the stereo Bluetooth to play music or podcast thru truck stereo.

    the research i came up with when looking into the very same problem. was that the radio doesn't have the recognition capabilities to make a complete connection with the phone.

    not only can i not make phone calls. i can't play my music either.

    not sure on all the bluetooth capabilities of the radio. but apparently it's limited. your phone may be connected, but don't expect it to actually work.

    the stereo in the car, actually has functions to make things happen with your phone. like voice dial and what not. the radio in your truck. don't have that capability. i don't know why they even bothered with a bluetooth chip. if it can't do anything.

    Thank you guys. That explains it. Drove a 2013 Pete and this feature worked perfectly in Pete's big touchscreen on the console. I liked not having to wear a headset. I guess it was a bit much to hope it would do so with a Freightliner stock radio. I appreciate the responses.

    How do I get my phone to link to the radio in a 2014 freightliner m2 it says Bluetooth on the radio but I've pushed all the buttons and can't find it text me five zero one two eight six three one two three thanks

    Is there a way to connect my Bluetooth headset to the radio in order to listen to Sirius through my headset?

    Have you removed the radio from the console? Does it have a place to plug a mic in?

    Just a thought.

    No, I haven’t removed the radio from the console. I probably didn’t make myself clear. My Delphi radio gives instructions to connect (sync) my phone but I want to connect (sync) my Bluetooth headset in order to listen to Sirius so I don’t disturb my co-driver when he is sleeping. Hope that made it clearer:)
