USA

I'll tell ya, I've used Alltel all over the country, indoors and out, for surfing, downloads, you name it. I find it to be fast and secure. It's the best I've used. I'd say AT&T/ Cingular was probably the worst I've used. Very Slow in most places, and I think I lost a signal at least twice everytime I used my laptop. When At&T went to the new phone system they are using now, I lost all signal on my phone at home and my computer. I had to go about 75 yards away from the house to use my phone. After 22 years of that company, starting with Bellsouth, my entire family dropped their phones and went with Alltel. I looked into and tried several others on a trial basis, but chose Alltel. I've had great service with my phone and my laptop across the country and pleased with my billing and customer service. I'm a happy camper.

It's pretty nice having Alltel/Sprint, seeing as they roam on eachother pretty freely. I wouldn't have had service most of the time while in the upper peninsula (MI) if it weren't for Alltel, much like Alltel customers wouldn't in some of the larger markets. Alltel's rural coverage is great.

After reading all this I can see I am pretty much S----crewed.. I have nextel unlimited and Like the sprint wireless but my GF just moved a few miles down the road and at her place I get "SERVICE RESTRICTED". Looks like my next best plan is through Verizon as they show a much better coverage area, however DL limits on the internet stinks. Although looking at the coverage map Sprint can't compare to Verizon. (of course anyone can color in a map)Total package for 2 unlimited phones and wireless is $284/mo Ouch!!! Someone school me on the streaming thing. Does that mean that I could ?NOT? set-up webcam and talk to my kids while I am away?

The only dumb queston is the one you failed to ask.
Just becasue its "legal" doesn't mean it's safe! I know when I need to sleep and when I am safe to drive. Fight the HOS. Write your Congressman.

There is no such thing as a "BACK-HAUL" everything has a start and stop point, If it needs to be moved then it is a load, period. Insurance, tires, fuel,etc... aren't any cheaper heading towards your home than they are going away. BACKHAUL is BS.

Verizon's policies say the web is for browsing and e-mail, so it'd be violating their policies. They don't really enforce that, but they do enforce the 5GB/month cap.

I will have to check more into getting me a server. Not only for OTR but at home. I use to run off my neigbors signal but they moved... lol. I have lucked out a few times with a free signal but not all the times.

Not that I'm a junkie while being OTR, just an hour here or there and to pay bills would also help.

i have no idea what some of you are talking about when it comes to Verizon, i have used it several times for streaming and had no problem with it at all. i only pay 165 a month for a family plan and my internet. and verizon has the best network coverage of them all, i should know, went to vegas at the end of feb this year, my friends AT&T phone, supposably better then mine had no service in several spots on the way down there, but i always had service.

A trip to Vegas is hardly a good indicator of which provider has the best coverage. The simple fact is that worldwide, a GSM phone (quad-band) is going to get the best coverage. However, in the US, a CDMA phone seems to have the better coverage. I can pretty much guarantee you that wherever your Verizon phone works, my Sprint phone works, simply because they have similar roaming agreements with most of the carriers. And the fact that his phone didn't have service didn't necessarily mean the area was one where AT&T doesn't work, it might simply be a poor RF chip in his phone. I have my dad and his wife on my family plan. When I'm at my dad's house, my phone is the only one that you can actually talk on, or even get a signal most of the time, simply because of the RF chip/antenna.
