    Hi Guys,
My wife and I are new to trucking and need to find a good wireless internet provider that can supply high speed access. We need to be able to access the internet while on the road by way of our lap top. We are looking for service fast enough to upload and download video. Does anyone have any good suggestions?

I always recommend Sprint Mobile Broadband. If you wanted, I could hook you up with a no-contract reseller (hope that's not breaking any rules) that resells Sprint's service for a lower price. There's also Verizon's package that actually prohibits video streaming, which I never recommend. AT&T has HSDPA and EDGE deployed most places, but I couldn't roam at all when I used Cingular's data card. Alltel and Sprint have a roaming agreement where coverage should be about the same, though Sprint has more native EVDO (high-speed) coverage.

If you're going to be OTR, I'd recommend you get one of the packages from Maximum Signal to help you out in fringe areas.

Just FYI, I recommend Sprint because it's what I use at home as my main Internet connection, and I absolutely love that I can finally get real broadband in the sticks.

If you plan to stop at Flying J's, there wifi program worked well for me. Its network is pretty strong. TA's was hit and miss. You can spend the BIG bucks if you want with Sprint or something, but its BIG BIG Bucks. Other then that, most decent truckstops have hourly access pretty easy, but I would suggest at least getting one main provider like Flying J to save money and just plan ahead.

Out of curiosity, what would you spend on 'net access in a typical month with your subscription and hourly?

Ok, I'm not sure what the deal is but for some reason my first post didn't post right, even though it subscribed me to the thread.

First, the already recommended solution (which I personally wouldn't like).

Second, Sprint Mobile Broadband. Most high-speed coverage, roaming agreement with Alltel, and there's a reseller that sells the service for $50/month with no contract.

Verizon has a cap of 5GB/month and strictly prohibits streaming video in their TOS. They now advertise it as "Web and E-Mail".

AT&T is probably the worst choice here for data. When I was with AT&T, my data card wouldn't roam on any other carriers and I had problems the few times I was lucky enough to find HSDPA (high-speed) coverage.

I think this has been discussed before in the electronic connection forum here at The Truckers' Report. I use Sprint Mobile Broadband at home, and I'm very thankful for it. I was using two-way satellite for many years before SMBB offered me "real" broadband.

My sprint is costing me basically 60.00 a month I have a new usb card I like it the only problem I have had is when I was with my trainer and he was driving while I surfed the web the connection would drop due to changing towers.
The connection is slower in a moving vehicle but if you are sitting still it is faaaasssstttt.
I would recommend the 595u that is their newest card that will update the software as needed I like mine because I use it on my laptop and my home pc that is why it is better to get the usb.

the service that you get from the ta,flying hook, pilot is a joke unless you are at a bosslemans then it is free. I use to try and park near motels I got free wifi from alot of them.

I have Verizon and it works beautifully. I'm online hours and hours every day and never hit the 5 GB limit yet. Yes, you can't do streaming and such but that's life.

Verizon's customer service is awesome and they're great to deal with.

If you decide to go with Sprint, I recommend going through the reseller Millenicom. They charge just under $50/month and there's no taxes/fees added onto it and no contract. I know quite a few people on a broadband forum I frequent that are very happy with Millenicom.
