Oh great! And I just switched to Alltel because Sprint slash Nextel was screwing me around. I never had any problems with Nextel before the $%^&#$ at Sprint came along and bought them out.

I wonder who the winner will be in the race to monopolize the cell phone market?

Alltel customers worry about Verizon deal
6/6/08
Quote:
NEW YORK - Verizon Wireless' deal to buy Alltel Corp. for $5.9 billion was applauded by investors and should mean a greater range of choices for Alltel subscribers, but some worried that Alltel's commitment to rural coverage will get lost.

Dan Yahro in Bishop, Calif., close to the border with Nevada, has two options for wireless service: Alltel and Verizon Wireless. Now that one is buying the other, he wonders what will happen.
"Alltel has twice the coverage of Verizon here. When you get into Death Valley National Park, which is where I spend a lot of time, Alltel is the only game out there," Yahro said.

Alltel's wide-ranging rural coverage in 35 states has given it 13.2 million subscribers and plenty of fans. In its area, mainly in the interior of the country and in the Southeast, it provides an alternative to the four big national carriers: Verizon Wireless, AT&T Inc., Sprint Nextel Corp. and T-Mobile USA.

John Wilfong, 29, of Alexander, Ark., said he had service on his Alltel phone everywhere when he worked as a deliveryman.

Nextel and Sprint used different technologies in their phones, that's why they had/have so many problems. Alltel and Verizon both use the same system. We had Alltel for a couple years and never had any problem. Switched to Verizon because of the available phones and have not had any problem with them either.

I think Verizon/Alltel will be a much better match than Sprint/Nextel was.

I wasn't having any problems with the service... just problems with the crooks who ran the business.

I will NEVER do business with Sprint again—not even if they are the last phone company on earth.

I have had both Sprint and Nextel. Sprint was ok but that was 9 years ago. Nextel was good for the first 1 or 2 then it sucked. I have Verizon now, and am VERY happy. With my Nextel, I could point at a telephone pole on my way to my lake house in Northern WI, and it would loose service, 2 hours away from my place. Over the winter, I was Ice Fishing on the lake while talking to my buddy in IL on my Verizon phone. That really impressed me.
