Hey peeps. my fiance is on his way to Utah now to start training! I am very very excited for him!. I wanted to come here and get some of our questions answered that I havn't found in the existing forums. We live in Alabama and we have not gotten any info about what happens after the 2 week training is up. Will he be able to come home during the time he is on the road? Will we have to relocate to Utah when he leases a truck? We are so happy that he found this opportunity, but are a little uneasy about what's going to happen after... especially me!!

    Thanks!:biggrin_25525:

Also check the Central Refrigerated Truckstop in the favorite company forum. Allot of current and former drivers are in there.
I would suggest DO NOT LEASE A TRUCK
Unless you really want to go broke.

He will do 2 weeks of training then go to orientation.
After that he will go out with a trainer for about a month. Most likely will not come home till after his time with a trainer. Unless he has to wait for one to be available.
Then he will get a load towards home when he gets upgraded.
    DO NOT LEASE A TRUCK

The lease "deal" is a scam, he will make more money as a company driver.
He will never own the truck, and will most likely get starved out of it within 2 years, so they can lease it to someone else.
Do a year or so with Central, and if he still likes driving he can look for a good company. Central is a training company. They are making almost nothing on hauling freight.
All the income they need is coming from there schools, government programs to hire and retrain the unemployed, and leasing trucks.
They lease so that they can get the truck later for free. It is not in the best interest of the company for the driver to ever own that truck.

Oh, you do not have to move to Utah.
They run all 48 states. He will take hometime where ever he asks to take it.

What exactely can I expect during the two week training? I have five years experience, yet they want me to go to their two week school. Why is there such a high turnover of employees at Central?

Probably because they're a bottom feeding refrigerated carrier....just a guess.

    Reason 1.
Central is a "drivers mill", a "training company".
Recruiters make it look great, all roses and tell you that you will make all kinds of money. The money is ok.... "IF" your single or your wife/husband works. Your not going to have a family life at home, pay rent etc on what they pay you.

    Reason 2.
A lot of these guys get out there on the road and can't stand it. They figure out that they are not cut out of a life on the road.

The worst part about it is they are still on the hook for the cost of the school.

If he has a good work ethic, can stay out for 4-8 weeks, willing to drive anywhere, he should do alright. I think Central is Swifts refrigerated division? Not sure

The key is having a good relationship with your dispatcher, and drive as hard as needed, always keep dispatcher/manager updated on ETA and PTA and he could expect to make roughly 2800-4000 bucks a month after training costs are paid for.

Demeanor and a good work ethic goes a long way. IMO

Sorry... Central and Swift is two different companies.... Owned by the members of the same familey (but then there are a few other companies that I have "heard" the familey members own too) but different companies....
