don't know how apu's are these days. but when they first came out. they spent more time in the shop then saving fuel.
seems like a truck uses less money just idling then constantly fixing an apu.
but if your creative and search hard enough. you can buy a 2000 watt generator usually cheap. and a small window mount a/c for $120 at home depot or lowes.

I have seen a couple trucks with window ac's, one guy cut a hole on the side of his cab and mounted one in
Anyway Swift has strict idle policies too, and yes someone can idle less than 30%, 6 days ago I talked to my DL about my numbers and he said I had an impressive 27% at that time, since then I have not idled until up to today until the sun went down, its now 75 degrees where im at.
Part of my good numbers are from various reasons, the truck I had before this one had no AC in it for all of June, tried to get it fixed on several occasions and they would give me crap about its going to be sitting for 4+ days so I kept on since I needed money and I sweated it out, went on home time July 1st and stuck in the shop, came back the 5th to be told the truck was good to go, first load Phoenix, AZ and got there at 2am with it still 94 degrees, guess what ac still not working....stuck it in the shop once again that Saturday morning, finally a new truck the next Tuesday with a load finally Wednesday evening.
For the whole month of Jully I idled maybe 5 hours total with the new truck since I got lucky and kept going to areas that were cool, if it was 80 or below I did not idle, same with this month up until today I finally went somewhere it was in the 90's until the sun went down. I seriously thought my idle % would be even lower since im conservative. Some drivers abuse idling though, I go to places where its 60 degrees and hear drivers idling around me still.... -
Doesn't matter now, loop hole achieved 0% across the board

The fleet we are on just lost 2 trucks in the last month for it. -
ouch not worth it, rather get yelled at than lose my job lol

Mine was already loose from the previous driver

last summer I had a very low idle.
don't feed me this "I can't go without idling" BS..I spent all summer AND all winter without idling -
my idle is pretty dang low, havent idled in the last 2 months except for a couple hours in Phoenix when trying to sleep. The problem is that there are a lot of people who idle when its not even needed. I can be somewhere its only 60-70 degrees and I still hear a ton of trucks around me idling....

I managed to have much lower idle than 30% both in summer and winter
and I ran midwest so I spent most of the winter in Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Pennslvania
survived summer without 30% idle and also without A/C -
When I go to performance on my qualcomm it says 33% to 36% at times. Then I want idle for like half a day or full day check my performance it says like 10% haven't heard a word yet. Also on my Central ref report online for last month it says 0% idle. Maybe I'm lucky or it really doesn't matter if you don't abuse it.
