Left for training 11/21/13. Arrived home today after being out in my truck for first two weeks. Finally got a load going from Al to Hershey, Pa. Gone so long, my dog barked and growled at me. :biggrin_25521:

Some observations about Central: My DM is a good guy. Everybody seems helpful to the new drivers. Weekend DM's are not on the same level as regulars.
Night staff bothers you with trivial nonsense.
PU and DEL dates don't seem to mean much.
School is a joke. You pretty much teach yourself or get left in the dust.
The guys that work for the school in the yard are good guys.
My first trainer was a filthy pig, that taught me nothing I didn't already know.
Second trainer was very professional and at least taught me the basics about how the systems works.
The first week there was spent in what I refer to as "THE PRISON".
    Direction for routes are pretty good. {I switched them up some}
Truck has been good to me so far. {2012 FreightLiner} Black, yuck.
Tough to find an MT trailer when you need one.
    Freight seems plentiful.
Nobody seems to read the Macros.
Corporate America has way too many silly rules.

Shippers and receivers: Worst part of trucking IMO. Lumpers are crooks. I actually had to raise hell at one receiver to get unloaded in a timely manner.
My first load was a 5 stop going from Ogden, UT to Miami, FL. Was given the load on the day of the first delivery. What's up with that? 1st delivery was almost 900 miles away...lol.
Every stop, every load, PU or DEL was late except my load to Hershey.

Not being a cry baby. I'm sure most companies are the same, some far worse.
Things are way more complicated than they were when I drove before. I miss the paper log book. Hard to fudge e-logs.
Hope everyone had a nice holiday season. I spent Christmas at "THE PRISON". :biggrin_25516:

Yep. Sounds like your typical mega-carrier.

If you ever try Flatbedding, you'll find shippers and receivers are totally different. They are actually glad your there and very respectful except some of the steel plants.
Rarely a want in line to get loaded or unloaded.
Years ago, I made the switch and couldn't beleive the difference in shippers and receivers.

I have some advantage over other students. I drove for 18months back in 94/95. Qualcom and macros were my biggest problem. Just didn't make sense to me at first. I think I've got it now.
Best thing is, I figured out how to work the GPS on it. Between that and the directions, maybe I can stay on track. Got lost a couple times.
I think my DM knows I'm trying hard to get the freight where it needs to be, when it's suppose to be there. I'm still a rookie, but at least I'm busting my hump to show I can do it.
Anyway, glad to be home and eat some home cooking again. Now I can stock the trk with food.

    Lady K Thanks this.
