Working For Central Ref.

Most reefer outfits want you to stay out 4 to 6 weeks at a time.WHY???

 

Thanks,Lonesome Dove; I saw about four BLACK Central Reefer Volvo's today.Do they still order both White and Black trucks?

 

The minimum that you should stay on the road is 2 weeks. The most you should stay on the road is 4 weeks. If you cannot make money in 2 weeks then you should go somewhere else. Lonesome_Dove seems to be a recruiter. This person does not tell the truth. You should not have to stay out longer than you want too. The truth of the matter is if you set a standard wage that you would like to receive every week and cannot make it then Central is not the company for you. Im not a recruiter but really dislike a half truth. Look for a regional job with small lanes at companies such as these. Central does not have small trucking lanes to allow you to work 1 or 2 weeks and still make money. I cannot tell you all of the companies but you can look in truck stops and get all the booklets of companies that run a certain area or do dedicated short haul.

What you should be looking for is not a dam lease, stay away from leases if you want to own your own truck and not pay the company 2 times the value please buy your own truck. Leases are nothing more than "Share Cropping."

Buy advantages are:

You get the tax write of the depreciation and extra interest. (These two items by themselves allow you to keep more money instead of paying it to a company every week.) You pay one payment every month and when the last payment is made its yours. Can get warranties that surpass the lease driver's options. Buying a truck you can make from -0.01 to 10,000.00 more per week and the list below cannot...

Lease drivers make anywhere from -0.01 aka in the hole to 300 dollars extra a week...

Lease drivers do not get these... Lease drivers have a continual payment that does not stop even if they go home... Lease drivers are glorified company drivers that are upset with themselves they got swindled...Lease drivers are a bunch of wanna be's... Lease drivers do not know what a business is... Lease drivers are a bunch of cry babies...LEASING IS JUST A BAD BUSINESS DECISION UNLESS YOU HAVE 20 OR MORE TRUCKS.

1 Truck is a waste of time for a lease.

 

Friend, you look to be the one doing the most crying. I'll take a person who has been with the company over a person who lasted +4 weeks any day. Also, it's a job, you're going to have to do things regardless of whether you "want to" or not. That's why it's a job. I'm going to this trucking school and I have done my research and seen several differing reports. One or two said they were horrible, some said they were ok, some said they were great. Well, we'll just have to see. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work and I'll just come home, lick my wounds and see about another company.

 

I got you beat on this, I gave them notice for home time and they messed up and tried to give me home time in Arcadia, not Arcata, CA. That's like 700 miles apart from each other! Then they tried to keep me out for another week, been out for four at that time.

You lose a day off for every week over 4 weeks. They won't allow you to take five days off if they keep you out for five weeks, makes it worthless to stay out longer.

 

Actually, I could have taken 5 days at christmas. The problem with that is that I would have had to park my truck at a terminal and it may have been reseated.

If I was having any breakdown issues with my truck I probibly would have dont this, but since it has been running well without any real issues, I wanted to keep it and only asked for 4 days.
I then mentioned my reason for only wanting 4 to my DM and she got me here a day early so I got the full 5 days anyway.
My truck will be due for trade in my May at the latest, so I am trying to keep it so I can get in the first wave of drivers to get the new trucks.

Oh, and both the black and the white volvos are company trucks. A few of these 670s are leased, but not many. The red ones are 780s. Those are all lease trucks, but we don't have many of them. There were all kinds of mechanical issues with them so most have been returned to volvo, and they will not be buying any more volvos. The word around salt lake is that company trucks will all be pete's and KWs. I heard 386 as the company model, but that is not confirmed and I would much prefer the 387.

 

Preacherman, I have been with other companies that ran your ### off. However, hometime is hometime, not run another load time. I think you will enjoy trucking if you do not do a company's training. An outside training will give you training for life not for "the company." I really enjoy driving a big rig. I have logged over 1 million miles. Do yourself a favor and do not do any leases until you know the truck you are driving, from nose of the tractor to the tail of the trailer. Enjoy your new profession, it is up to you to keep your CDL once you get it. Peace.

 

in 23 yrs i never stayed out for more then 2 weeks.why wud anyone stay out longer? i made good money and never stayed out for more then 2 weeks and thank god i never worked for dick or central or wud i ever!!!! i know drivers that worked there and i wud never tell anyone to work as a company driver or as a o/o!!!!
