I haven't noticed this until about a week or so ago.
I was on a trip that said 910 miles , and the way they had me routed it was over a grand , almost 1100.
Now , I put the info into a gps , and switched it to car profile (because I wanted to see the shortest possible) and it was still around 988 .
So , what gives ?
Trip I am on now says 990 and its really like 1070 miles .
I know they do that zip code to zip code thing , but dayummm , that must be one hell of a zip code. Lol
Anyone else notice this ? I am driving tons of miles not paid. Wtf ?
fuel routing millage ?

Welcome to the world of getting screwed big time. I know that dallas and ft worth are 60 miles apart but can be in the same zip code, or 1 mile zip code difference.
tangerineGT Thanks this. -
Thats just crazy , my one trip was almost 200 miles different tho.
-
tangerineGT Thanks this.

I did some research about this , and Swift actually has a class action suit filed for this reason.
from what I see nothing has come out of it yet , and thats who I drive for. -
try lovell wyoming. to reno nevada. using mapquest.com. that's the mil.eage pay for that trip.
now use truckmiles.com for that same trip.
mapquest routes cars through yellowstone. trucks aren't allowed through yellowstone. so you drive 150 miles MORE.tangerineGT Thanks this. -
Don't worry about what you don't get paid for. Worry about what you do get paid for. You probably wouldn't want to take the shortest routes anyway with tight turns and tons of stop lights.
tangerineGT Thanks this. -
Yea , I guess taking the long way is better , but do they use just generic millage calculators.? If , so I guess thats why these trips seem so off them. I mean going through Yellowstone would not be fun in something this big anyways. Lol
The last trip took me into florida on 319 , and their routing was trying to put me on a business rt. Lol -
I beg to differ. Going through Yellowstone in something this big would be even more fun .
Now getting down into the trenches. There is 3 different types of way carriers determine paid mileage to drivers/billed mileage to shippers. You can get the details here or just read the gist of it i copied and pasted below.
- HHG: Household goods mileage (HHG) is used to calculate driver pay in the trucking industry. It is supposedly the shortest route from shipper zip code to consignee (receiver) zip code. HHG is also known as zip code miles or short miles.
- practical mileage: The actual distance from shipper to consignee. If you typed the addresses for shipper and consignee into any of the online map sites or an up-to-date GPS, the result would be practical mileage.
- hub mileage: The total distance a driver travels from shipper to consignee as determined by the trucks odometer. This includes 100% of the distance driven from shipper to consignee.
Why companies use HHG we can stand around and talk about till the cows come home, but the results of it are obvious even to someone such as yourself who is not tracking their information at all.
Here is what HHG has done to me for the YTD

If you tracked your numbers then you could see how much you are getting screwed to .tangerineGT Thanks this. -
to me if they just said your getting $250 for this run
or $375 for this run i wouldnt worry about cpm
when i had to worry about chasing miles for every check i was always upset
now i know i am going Green Bay to LA and back I never ever think about it
going to be 4500-5000 every run just how long it takes
