If a driver wants to buy his own rig and haul your freight instead of being a company driver, how does he go about getting started?

Well you have many steps to do first. Go and get your authority first, buy a truck, trailer, and other things. Once all the "hard" stuff is done, call CH Robinson and have the contracts dept fax you the contract to sign, it takes a couple of hours and you will be able to pull the freight. BTW don't let the contract scare you, you can haul for them once a year, or everyday depending on what you like.

It's been several years since I registered with CHRW, but when I did, they had a person call me and basically walk me through everything about how to use their system. If they still do it that way, this person will be able to answer any questions and will also offer some helpful pointers to you.

How do you really feel? -
OK Thanks. It sounds to me that bad directions are the main problem here. I can deal with that. I'm from NJ. Can I get daily trips/turn arounds, dedicated, loaded to and from and get home to NJ every night or is all road work ? How steady is the freight ?

3 HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is there waiting time for flatbed work?

They have always SUCKED. I remember getting CRAP loads from them going to Food Lion in NC...I REFUSED to do anymore and they would beg...no way! CH Robinson constantly tries to spam us as well. We even had one, from them, that came on and said IDK if this is spam, but I don't care...here is such and such...
That/They are pathetic. -
done close to 100k since june with CHR.lowest paying broker but-you guessed it,they have more loads! some loads we can bump the rate up to what we want, others they won't budge. all depends on how many empty trucks are in that area. get the most $$ when i post my trucks and they call needing the load picked up ASAP(should have loaded the day before).good luck getting good rates out of florida or new jersey areas

CH treats the truck drivers like dirt. It's just a prime example of corporate america crushing the working class. I have not pulled a CH load yet that paid any decent money, nor do they pay a fuel surcharge instead they keep it for themselves. Whoever thought microsoft was a monopoly should look at CH. CH even says on their website they set the rates for freight all over the world. Furthemore I know a CH person and he adjusts the rates of the loads, and makes good money doing it.
