Alot of small departments with limited funds make their officers pay for almost everything. Uniform, guns, vests. They just can't afford these things. Let alone an officer on patrol. Sad but true. Those funds go else where.

One of my wife's brothers was a deputy in Mississippi County, AR. The deputies purchase the cars with authorization from the sheriff to purchase the police car options. The sheriff installs the cage, light bar and radios. I know the car was washed and gassed up at the county jail by trustees, but I am not certain about replacement tires, maintenance and repairs. Whenever we visited my brother-in-law, we rode in the car. He enjoyed leaving his mother behind the cage where the doors cannot be opened from the inside. After he retired, he used his authority letter to purchase one more Ford Crown Victoria with the big engine, bottle cap hubcaps, etc. He would break the speed limits in other states with that car, and their state police officers would simply wave at him. Arkansas deputies often had to purchase the brand of car sold by the dealership in their home town. They may have wanted a Crown Vic, but that is politics.

An 18 year old Wannabe? It's funny, people who have a problem with police never seem to have a problem when they need them.

I had to wear one when I was a LEO in the military, they are very pricey depending on the brand and options. You can expect to pay upward of $2000 for a top of the line one. A donation well made.
