I got my CDL a few months ago, and is now working with CCC ( a comcar company out of Jax FL) hauling Beer from Jax Brewery to different distributors in FL. . CCC is a wonderful company to work for ,every one has being very helpful and supportive, but they pay very little.I Have being with them for 2 months now, and so far the most money I made was at training, I have never refused a load, worked Saturdays and Sundays and so far I have not taken home more than $ 500.00 per week.
It is nice to work with nice people, and to be home every night, but I have developed this terrible habit of eating every day, some times 2 or 3 times a day( if you include snacks) and I find it difficult to shake this terrible habit, so I am looking for greener pastures.
I Haver being reading about Con-Way, and I am a little confused about the different Opportunities there.

What are the different ways you can work with, Con-way, OTR? Daycab, Line haul etc? and what are the pro's and con's of the different Options? ( pay, time home, work hrs)
I read of people talking about making $1400.00 to $2400 per week, and then I read of some one who is new to Con-Way and is averaging 2,000 miles per week at .29 per mile . that comes to $580 for the week.
What should I expect if I make the move to Con-Way?
I dont want to jump from the frying pan in to the fire.
    Thank you all.

I started there a couple months ago, in the LTL division (my first ever driving job).
So far i like it a lot. The only down side is the flex board. Which the theory behind that is: every day is unpredictable, sometimes they'll need more help at night (in linehaul) and sometimes the day will be busier (local pickups/deliveries).. so the last 5 - 10 guys on the seniority list will be forced to go where the help is needed. I prefer the city, but most of my time has been on overnight linehaul, the hours usually being 20:00 - 09:00 the next day, and you have to find time to sleep in between. I don't like it for the simple reason that while i'm working, the rest of the world is out having fun. But to each their own, for some people the extra $400 - $600 a paycheck is worth it (i average 700 - 750 in the city, and 1100 in linehaul... and thats bottom rate... ps. i got 580/wk for my 2 week introductory training).

JFKFC199 thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. I like CCC as I said in my OP , so far every one there is very nice, and the job is easy. but I Have a family and I need to make a certain amount of money to maintain them, and so far the loads that I get a CCC just dont cut it, a load to Sanford from Jax pays $55 plus maybe a back haul for $30 =$ 85 Gross for the day, also their medical is a jock, for my family it would be $180 per week with a $2000 deductible. Crazy, I need to make a move, I just cant jump from the frying pan in to the fire.the next company I go with I would have to stay with for a while, otherwise it will look bad on my employment record. So I appreciate all the advise I can get.

    Thank you again.

No offense, but I think you're already in the fire. Doing the math quickly in my head, it seems like you average 10/hr, but with the kind of license we have NO ONE should average less than $15.. i'm new to the industry, at bottom rate, and i make 18.5. You won't get benefits for 90 days, but thats a small price to pay for just a couple of months. I think you'll be 100x times happier somewhere else, especially here. I wouldn't worry about your employment record either, as long as you have legitimate reasons for leaving.. and supporting a family on slave wages is pleeeeeeenty of reason. Any terminal manager (who most likely has, at the very least, a bachelors in business) will fully understand without you even having to say a word.

You are right ,I am in the fire, unfortunately, I cant afford to make an other mistake, so I have to be careful with the choices I make next.
As I said before Except for the pay part, and the medical benefits, CCC is a great company to work for , but unfortunately , I have a family that depends on me and I need to go some place where I can make more money.
Today I had 2 loads assigned to me, one was a 5 am pull from Jax to lake city 2 hrs there and 2 hrs back, and the other was a 10 am pull from Jax to Melbourne about 4 hrs there and 2 hrs back ( 2hrs back because I take the truck home and my home is 1.5 hrs closer to Melbourne) any way, I woke up 2:30 am, pre triped my truck and started driving 3 am, ( i m driving under FL rules 12/16) arrived at the Jax CCC terminal, 4:30 fueled up dropped my previous day paperwork and went to the Brewery for my 5 am pull, only my Load was not ready, talked to load manager and was told that I will not be ready until 7:30-8:00 am, so I went off Duty on my Log to save some of my 70 hrs. and waited, my load was ready 8:00 am, busted a gut to get out of there and drop my Load in Lake City arrived there about 10 am , but there was no bay open for me to drop my load, so I had to drop my load in the Yard, pull am empty trailer from a loading Dock, drop the Empty in the yard, hook up to my load again, put it in the empty dock, then go back to the empty I dropped in the yard and hook up to it so I can take it back to the brewery with me, did not get back to the brewery for my 10: am pull until 12:30,got my load and started to drive for Melbourne at about 1:00 pm, heavy rain on the way, arrived in Melbourne at 4:30, must slide my Tandems back for the Dock, but one of the tandem pins will not release, finally got the pin to release slided the tandems back dropped my load at the dock, and picked up an empty trailer for the for the trip back, by now it is 5:15 and I have a 2 hr trip back home , my 16 is over at 7 pm, and my truck is Governed at 56 mph? what to do , I am in a Day cab and I dont want to get a Motel room 15 min from home. I remember from school that If you get stuck in traffic, or if there is bad weather, you can go over your Hrs, So I go over my HRs by 15 min and I make it home 7:15 pm .
16:15 later and not even a brake for lunch!! I had to eat while I drove. And all this for $ 145 for the day Gross.
I guess I am in the fire, to say the least!!!!!
Unfortunately I have to stay here for at least an other month so that I can have 3 months experience under my belt. and then, if things have not improved, make a move.
Con-Way sounds good, unfortunately for me, I have to stay close to home, to take care of family, OTR will be difficult for me, and I did not see any LTL jobs available in my area.
This weekend , when I have more time, I will put in an application for LTL at an area I am not interested in , and if they call me I will ask for opportunities in my area.
this is all new to me,so,I would appreciate any comments and or advice
PS what happened to Con-way on the list of Carriers? I dont see it there anymore.
