Driving School

I have an interview tonight with Con-Way. I was lured to Con-Way because they say they will pay your school while you make money working for them at the same time. I want to earn my CDL but I cant't afford to miss work for the training. Does anybody know what kind of work and how much they pay during the CDL training? This is a huge career change for me so I have to be very careful. Thanks.

Exclamation Just in case anyone cares......

If you do decide to go to the Con-way driving school, you will work on the dock part of the day.......Drive the truck part of the day......Go to school part of the day(Classroom). You will get paid for the dock time. I don't know how much......but, after a few weeks you'll have your CDL......and you WILL know how to drive that truck. You won't be shoved out there before you're ready. They take their training very seriously. And, no one gets a free pass.

I did my CDL the same way, but with our Teamster contract dock workers earn 10c/hour less than drivers, so it was worth my while to do it. Best thing I ever did for myself. Although, I had to go driving on my days off. Still worth it.
Good luck... and have fun!

I'm looking into going this route with conway in the northeast. They have driver school in Mass. I sent an email and am going to call monday.I can try to get free training through unemployment. Do you guys think its better to get your cdl on your own or get it through conway? atleast with conway id already have a job on the docks then driving LTL. What are your thoughts. Thanks

unemployment

if you get your cdl thru labor depart / unemployment you can get a job anywhere, if you gop under contract you will suffer and get ###### pay

you will definately have to get ojt on job training when u get out of school, but no bill, no obligations. the contracts are dangerous and the companies will really rip you off , moving freight for pennies a mile is not worth a free liscense
