I'm a new hire here and just wondering what types of things you all have picked up along the way that make your time more productive and/or enjoyable.

At the moment, I'd particularly like to know if there is a way to get load assignments CC'd to your cell phone so you don't have to babysit the qualcomm. And is there a way to keep the qualcomm mcp100 from going into sleep mode overnight? I'm paranoid about missing a load... Speaking of the qualcomm -- are the volume buttons supposed to work? I can only seem to adjust volume by going to settings, but that is impractical for raising volume on the highway.

-- DY (enjoying all the con-way perks, but definitely missing the qualcomm mcp200 used by my last company)

You can call Option 5 ....152 for board status , it will let you know ur # on the board
800-243-5467 ....151 for the morning report which just will let you know freight /trk avail in the area you are in.... there should be a button away from the QC on the dash to control the QC from the drivers seat

Get a bungee cord. You can use it for sliding tandems when the bar doesn't want to go up. Also a small bottle of dish soap. Put that on the scrub brush at the truck stops when you clean your windows, it not only helps get the baked on bugs off but it makes it so your window doesn't get streaky from diesel in the water.

Where is the company handbook. In orientation they indicated a copy was available online in the portal, but I can't seem to find it.

At the moment I'm wondering about the detention policy. Been here 2 hours -- does that mean I start getting paid on hour 3 or if you wait 2 hours after apt time you get paid for the 1st 2 hours & all that follow? And do you send in the arrival time or the apt time for "in time?"

Double: When you log into the Driver Dashboard scroll to the bottom of the page and you'll see a yellow button that says "Download Employee Handbook". Mind you this is through the Driver Connection and not the Employee Portal. There are two different sites.(https://www.con-way.com/en/truckload)

Detention is paid after the 2nd hour. You don't get paid for the first two, those are free. You log your times and use the time you checked in with the customer (form 20) for when your clock starts and your time out (either form 6 or 12, depending on if you're getting loaded or unloaded.) for you stop time.

Document everything dispatch tells you. Name, Time, Date, What was discussed.
Keep it in a separate medium notepad for when you talk to night and weekend
dispatch. And try to have it sent to your QualComm. Example you need to drop
your trailer to go to shop, You must call dispatch, they say it is ok and you
ask for them to send to your QComm, their response, Let me ask my manager. They
will tell you things that will get you fired. CYA Cover your #####.

    If you
feel unsafe driving your truck for weather or mechanical issues don't even if
Road Service says it is OK (mechanical) Tell them send it to my QComm, that you
know my truck is unsafe for me to drive but you want me to drive it anyway. They
won't, their response. "it opens us up to liability" so it will all be on you.
    CYA

Conway is better then most large OTR companies out there but be sensible in
your decisions, allot of dispatchers have never been in a truck or have been out
of them to long to remember how it is out here in the real world.
