Just saw a brand new trailer with duals (steel wheels too). Is this the wave of the future? Wonder if tire curbing costs got too much...

the benefit of singles fuel savings does not out weight the need to call a service truck every time there is a blow out. I would hate to think that i am 1 mile from tire shop and had to call service truck to change a tire instead of limping in.

The one blow-out I had was from a tire with a gouged sidewall and it had another 30 miles to go before the next wingfoot...

If I was an o/o I'd run super singles. Fleet owner? Singles on everything but the right-side trailer wheels... Virgin inners, recap outers... Someone give me a radio show.

Con Way? No They don't allow you to do anything you can call someone else to do, How are you going to get that bead set on a SS? It takes a bunch of air! I had a trailer I was dragging 500 miles to the shop, lost 2 trailer tires and drive tire on the run, 3 Road service Trips the two trailer tires were the same T/A doing the work! I hope this helps.

Oh man, not the singles vs duels debate again lol...i guess i have to give my 2 cents again.

First off, fuel saving runnign singles os over 6000 a year. that's a lot of service calls. If inflated properly they will last 300,000 miles. In that time you will have saved over 15000 dollars. Even if you had to replace a few along the way at 600-800/ tire you still way ahead. As for blow outs, they are less liklet on singles, and if you use limiting straps you can limp on them

Richter, I have seen your post around on various threads, I find your knowledge right on for the most part, But this last one baffles me. "What are limiting straps? Do you mean to try and take the weight off of that wheel? Or exactly what is it? Thanks.

I heard the duals are the new trend...we are popping too many tires on trailers (hitting curbs). Don't expect them to go away on the tractors. This came from inside the big house so I believe it is reliable.

    double yellow Thanks this.
