I actually found this web site today when I was searching for more information about this "merger" or whatever they're calling it, between Con-Way and CFI.

Con-Way Truckload (CWTL) has already been issuing statements to its employees that "nothing is going to change operationally" but I just don't buy it.

For one thing, CWTL is headquartered out of Memphis, Tennessee. It has already been made clear that the new headquarters of the Truckload division is going to be headquartered out of Joplin (CFI's main terminal) and will be headed by CFI's top dog and CEO, Herb Schmidt.

It sounds like (but I haven't been able to confirm) the staff at Memphis are goners.

So, while Con-Way (the bigger parent company) bought out CFI, it sounds like Con-Way's Truckload division, which is only about ten percent the size of CFI, is going to be rolled up in the giant CFI snowball.

The new entity will be named "Con-Way Truckload" but for all practical purposes, I'm guessing it will operated as if CFI bought CWTL.

Well get ready brother. Herb Schmidt is a company yes man...period.

He did assist me while I was in their employ, for that I am greatful. But, the bottom line will be profits. You produce or you are gone.

I sure as hell didn't see that coming LOL. I wonder what Herb is going to do with all the CFI teams that jumped ship and went to Con-Way earlier this year?

It may actually benefit you. You might actually get a dispatcher that understands what Logistics are now. Most CFI dispatchers couldn't figure it out, prior to this move. Maybe they will now.

And maybe you'll get more than a weekly average of 2400 miles,

ConWay to Purchase Contract freighters Inc of Joplin Mo

Looks like later this year CFI will be folded into Conway Truckload. Let's see how long the fleet of red KW's on super singles lasts under the new management.

Burky, there are at least two other threads on this already. FYI

Is the consensus this is a good merger?
