I personally have never worked for Conway Freight.
How bad are the working conditions, pay, and benefits over at Conway Freight?
HOPEFULLY, the workers do NOT get put onto part-time status or get outright laid off or terminated.
One can almost rest assure that the management staff, (especially senior management staff), over at Conway Freight is quite upset about the Teamsters Union being voted into the workplace to represent the workers.
Also, if I recall correctly, Texas is a right to work state. Also, as a general rule, Texas is known to be an ant-union state amongst the general population.Last edited: Sep 18, 2014

Laredo is in a state of its own ...... maybe its Mexican Cartel Teamsters

A lot of it varies by terminal and region. I've worked here for 11 years and like it. That said, my terminal has very good road runs that I can bid and hold yearly plus I like the people I work with including management. I'm at a good terminal though. I'm in the northeast and make .60 and like 25 an hour now. The problem is rates vary a lot by terminal and so do runs.
The bottom line is upper management is so detached from what happens on the ground it's laughable. IMO, the biggest mistake they made was the pension. They should have left it alone for those already in it rather than freezing it. At this point, less than half the drivers would still be in it since it was changes in 2005.
There are laws that protect the Laredo terminal from being closed. It's not that simple in any state. Even the company has stated nothing has currently changed. My guess is they will play hard ball while negotiating a contract and drag it out with all legal means.
I do think the guys here that think we're gonna end up with a sweet contract are nuts. The company is gonna play hardball and I'm not sure what these guys think they're gonna give - it is bargaining which means give and take which drivers I talk to simply don't get. What frustrates me is how hard it is to get real information - even procedure stuff. The union people are full of crap and so is the company. It's gonna be a long drawn out miserable process that should have never happened but our upper management is so delusional it happened right under their greedy disconnected noses.
I'm gonna keep working here for the hours I have and money I make but if the schedule changes and I don't like it I'll leave. I'm actually open to the union to a degree but I'm already finding they're there own worst enemy. They have the same propaganda problem the company does.double yellow Thanks this. -

Unions have a place...just not sure where. They are a business, they don't work for free, so what they gain the employee has to be more than the cost or they are no good.
Twenty years ago, you asked someone in an industrial town who they worked for, the answer was a union name and a local number. So, their loyalty went to the union rather than the company. Those same loyalties didn't care if the company went down, local would find them another job. The locals ran out of jobs for their members.
United Steel Workers and United Auto Workers are examples. How many companies make steel in the US anymore? Detroit is bankrupt. Yes the politicians have something to do with it but, if there aint no money coming in, it really doesn't matter how much you cut. The businesses are gone, the taxpayers are gone...no money.
Back in the sweatshop days with child labor, and unsafe conditions...unions made a difference. I praise them.
If a union could negotiate me a buck an mile, my joy would be short lived. Eventually the company couldn't compete, and I would be job hunting.
Back to the original statement, unions have a place and a purpose, just not sure where... -
Great news ....
Sometimes i wonder what planet ,these anti union ppl are from and im still waiting to hear why they have a problem with organized labor contracts
