I have now been with Con-Way Truckload 7 months. I have a little less than 45,000 miles. That's 1,500 average per week at 31cpm. I have spent half my time broken down. I begged and pleed and after 4 months was given a replacement truck. This one has been just as bad as the last. Just 2 weeks ago it was down in the shop for 18 days and had to wait 3weeks for a pay check. My ride along and I are struggling to get by.
-The truck is almost ready for an updrade, 15k miles to go but it feels like its going to take forever to reach that.
    - With winter coming I feel like I won't get miles due to snow.
    -ALWAYS breaking down

*I am debating on what to do. Should I quit and go elsewhere now? Wait until I have 1 year experience? Or stay and hope when I upgrade I get lots of miles?

I was hoping to make it to at least 1 year and transfer to Conway freight in fort worth Texas, but I don't know how easy it really is to transfer. Or I could quit now (on good terms) and try applying to freight (anyone try this?). I see conway freight hires newbies so maybe i would have a chance. Search for local DFW tx work? Head out to the oilfields in Odessa? Willing to live anywhere tho.

I'm not looking to get rich being a rookie, but need to survive. Please help me fellow drivers.

31 cpm and 1,500 miles a week over the course of 7 months ... not to mention the breakdown issues ... take this hard information to a recruiter over there or HR or someone in charge, show them the evidence and if they cannot resolve the problem you have no choice but to leave the company. You have put up with more than what most drivers would put up with. Don't be afraid of them putting bad stuff on your dac or bad referral or whatever. If you did not cause any accidents or any damage and don't have any tickets then that will work in your favor. Show your new employer the same paperwork showing you weren't making any money over there and you will be fine.

Yes I have put up with a lot, guess its just bad luck? So far I have a perfect clean driving record. I have complained to many people about this and the only solution they can give is to give me another used truck that may have issues. Last time that didn't work out and was a ton of headache and fighting to get this one. I know most have a great experience at Con-Way.

Yeah I see that and don't want that to happen. I am a hard worker. Just don't know where to go from here. Debating the options. I know to get the decent paying jobs you need 1 year experience, but I need to at least survive. All incan afford is pbj and tuna sandwiches. Have many bills that have gone unpaid months.

WTH is wrong with those people? Everywhere I've worked, they'd be having kittens if one of their trucks was down for more then 2 days, and certainly would be offering up replacement trucks to keep the revenue coming in after day 3. Or do they have a freight shortage and really can't keep that additional truck busy, anyway? (never mind the driver's financial issues)

I feel your pain... I started with cwtl too few years ago. This company is good just to get to this industry. I left this company after 5 month. Reason? The same, NO $ ! U asking should I find another company? Of course man! 1500 miles a week at 31 cpm? Go to McDees and flip burgers and your paycheck will be the same or even better with the same amount of time u spending at work and u ll be home everyday with your family. I was averaging around 2300 miles a week. It just blows my mind how some ppl work for this company for years. I guess they just love to be away from home for weeks and not make any money. I don't get it. After I quit with them I found local job pulling reefer in 300 miles radius around my house, I was home every day and was making about 2.5 times more than with Conway. Don't be scared, u have 7 month of experiance, go find another driving job. There millions of places r hiring. Drivers needed everywhere! But I recommend u to find small company.

Yeah that's what you would think. I guess the main reason would be is that they have warranty on the trucks and try finishing them out. The truck running a little bit is more valuable than one sitting in a yard. They seem to have a ton of trucks in the shop and they never fix all the problems. Bandaides. 1st I had a 660 now a prostar.

You have great advice. Along with the other people. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one at conway who had this problem. I am sorry for what happened to you as well. Happy you found a great position now!!!!!

I'm actually pulling skateboard now and like it. Hopefully u ll find another better paying job (not 31cpm lol). Good luck to u driver! And like I said don't go to another mega carrier, find small company (maybe 2 trucks,3, maybe 10) ull be treated better, no fm bs, no elog bs. U should be able to find job for 40cpm+ pulling box easily. My buddy (owner of small flatbed company 3 trucks) in Chicago having problems to find drivers for 45cpm(as many miles as u can handle) or 25% of gross. He just can't find a drivers, nobody wants to work. Do research and talk to otherdrivers at trucks stop working for small companies. Somebody will give phone # of company owner to u. Like I said drivers needed everywhere and always.
