You are one lucky man. I just happen to have gotten my Social Security statement in this past week. Showing my earnings per year.

1st year -- $59,141

2nd year -- $53,727

3rd year -- $48,394


I left my 3rd year...But do you see the trend there? I busted my ### every year. Staying out 2-4 months at a time. When I left, I had 18 days banked, not including an upcoming 2 week vacation.

IF you are a student about to get your CDL. I highly recommend them for you. You'll earn more your first year with them, than most companies.
They aren't as slack about giving you the raises, as some are.

Bobby You hit the nail on the head! To many drivers get the attitude of only wanting to run the long ones! You have got to take what is offered. The short 300 miles loads pay better then sitting in some truck stop waiting for that "bigger run" Quick story! early 2007 I was working for Smith. Me and another driver where sitting in Roaring Spring both dispatched on a load from cambridge Ohio down to Atlanta. We ran ran together. For what ever reason his door emtied him about 45min quicker then my door aloowing him to get his MT call in before me. No biggie. Anyway we where both just chilling out waiting on a load after about 4hrs he got a load offer. A short run over to Bama less then 300. He declined the load telling his Dispatcher he would wait on a longer run becase he had already had a short run on that weeks check. With a long line of Smith trucks behind us waiting on loads, I was all over it! I ran it got MT the very next morning and a quick reload. I called him up around noon to see where he was at and what he was doing. He was still in Atlanta waiting on a load. Said he was only being offered short stuff! LOL so here he sits waiting and Im rolling. Who makong money? The bottom line is: If you wanna make money your wheels need to be turning! Take the short, take the long, stay outta the truck stops unless you need fuel or shower. Show up a little early for your appointments because sometimes they will MT your trailer on arrival. I know this is all very basic but you would be suprised at just how many drivers just cant figure out why they are not making money!!

Hey Gator - Great piece of advice (You too Bobby). Makes sense to me. Would rather run short runs than no runs at all. At least it's money, and more than I had. And although I am not running yet, my understanding is that if you jump when the dispatcher calls, the dispatcher will remember that it was YOU that stood up to the plate, right?

Conway Truckload/Formerly CFI loves that attitude. I personally know a guy who jumped on 12 back to back runs, of 300 miles over a 12 day period. He b#### and moaned to every driver that would listen. Never said a word to his FM..two thumbs up for the team player.

Made for a hell of a paycheck.
