Yeah, I just applied recently myself. I have been talking to some of their drivers and they like them. I applied to all the companies with military oriented programs(Roehl, TMC, Werner & Conway), and they seem to be the best right now. It is a good program. Almost an extra thousand a month on top of your regular pay. It almost makes dodging IED's in downtown Baghdad worth it. Good luck Blue streak.

well everyone, good morning

been busy couple days. passed the permt tests w/ flying colors, got DOT physical. spent yesterday getting copyof birth certificate. for those that dont know you gotta have a certified copy of birth certificate, dot physical & exam results from highway patrol to get your hard copy permit. In Missouri the birth certicate can been picked up at your local health clinic, but call first not all of them have the equipment to issue them. saves alot of driving around. I went to Hermann first their machine was down so then off to Jefferson City. All done now. Headingto Crowder Monday morningto start school. as far as GI bill goes, i didn't qualify because to much time passed, plus MO doesnt off any state funding for military, but some states do, at least thats what they told me. but your right the xtra student funding would have been appreciated. best of luck to all of you & be safe on the road.

Hey KM, took my driving test on Wednesday, Graduated Friday and ready to go to orentation in Joplin on Monday. Had a small problem with my backing on the test (the alley dock) but I made it and all is well. Went to pick up my birth certificate today and got my CDL from DMV. How are things going with you?

Hey congrats man!!!!! That is good and you should do fine at orientation. I am doing just great. Tomorrow is my last day at my crappy retail job and I will be in Drumright, Ok before I know it. Im pretty pumped that is for sure. I will try to keep everyone up to date through school. Funny thing I have been practicing double shifting in my standard truck at home. My buddy has a 32 foot sail boat on a trailor so I have been pulling that all around and backing it. Does not hurt to get some practive in I guess. Keep us up to date on your orientation. Good luck

I went to Central Tech in Oklahoma for Conway. I have to say it was probably the most professional training I could have ever expected. I taught aviation maintenance in the Marine Corps for 2 years and I critique EVERYONE when they speak (I was an instructor evaluator, it's a bad habit I can't break) and these people were spot on. You could tell they knew 100% of the time exactly what they were talking about, they didn't have nervous ticks, no need to say "um" every third word because you weren't familiar with the material, no pacing due to nervousness, no hand in the pockets, no nothing. Just good instructors with plenty of experience and a great course.

Hell by the time I graduated, I had driven in rush hour in Tulsa both morning and night, ice and snow, loaded and empty, and backed around the entire !##$% course at Drumright because my instructor told me I couldn't do it with no pull ups.

Made me extremely confident (not cocky) and ready to roll when I hit CFI. I couldn't have asked for better training.

Better miles yes lmao, but not better training.
That's great to hear man. I live fairly close to the school you attended, and plan to attend there later this year. They mentioned that Conway will pay half tuition if you sign on with them after completing the course.

I'm very pleased to you hear the instructors are professional, they know what they're teaching, and most of all, that you felt fully prepared upon graduation. Thanks for your post.

Sorry so long getting back on this.

But yes, those were all policy when I worked there.

The tight delivery times, have probably gotten even tighter. Since they turned the trucks down to 65.

I still remain in contact with a few friends, and get to hear of "changes". But most of those changes have been minor.

Just finished reading through this entire thread. There's some great information here, I tell ya what. I've got a pretty good feeling about Con-Way now, after doing some additional research. There pay is much better than what I'd thought it was, for whatever reason.

Not to mention, they are much closer to me than the other two companies I've considered. Joplin is a mere two hours from me, and I live very close to their Sapulpa terminal. I think it's mainly an LTL terminal, but I see red CFI and ConWay TL trucks hooking up to loads there all the time.

Many thanks to all of you who have contributed and shared your experiences with the rest of us. This forum is an amazing tool, and I think we've yet to see the impact it may have on the industry.
