I just read on Con-Way's forum that they are no longer hiring students who want to drive solo. They will only take students who are willing to team.

Hair follicle test?...... Why would you worry yourself? Wouldn't think a professional driver would have to worry about any type of drug test.

I guess Con-way is really tough to get a job..I was told with 6yrs exp, safety driver awards.I would have to work for someone for 6 months to show i have had 2 jobs in a 2 year period....what the heck? That makes no since.

Piling on here....as the other poster stated, no they don't.

But you can hang up your days of using....anything.

When they say random, they mean random. I was tested 3 times within one 4 week period. Cuz my number came up.....

I just wanted to share my opinion of and experiences with Con-Way Truckload.

My boyfriend has been with Con-Way for almost a year now but is now looking elsewhere for employment.

He started out as a team driver and was treated great. They got good miles, idled any time they were sitting, got home when needed, and generally liked the job and company. He and his co-driver were averaging 6,000 miles a week and getting paid $0.44/mile. The only problem they really had was getting "service failures" for stupid reasons like not driving tired/manipulating logs.

About 2 1/2 months ago he went solo so I could come out on the road with him. Since then everything has gone downhill. Now instead of the decent income he was making he is getting $0.36/mile and only getting about 2,000 miles per week on average. Also Con-Way generally treats there solo drivers worse. You have to be very careful about idling and are often hassled for no apparent reason. You can be delivering all your loads on time and keeping your idle time down and they still send message after message hasseling you.

Two big things that really irk me about Con-Way TL are these:

First, they hold any "service failures" a team get against both drivers if they split up. When my boyfriend ran team his co-driver got 2 service failures and when they split they held those against both of them individually. So even though my boyfriend was asleep and could have done absolutely nothing about the "service failures" his co-driver got while he was asleep he still gets penalized for them.

Second, Con-Way will use the Qualcomm GPS against a driver who is running a little late and sends that they have arrived before they do but will not use it to benefits the driver. On one particular occasion we had been at a customer and were checking in and sent the message 1 minute late and got a "service failure" for it even though they could have easily checked the GPS and seen that the truck had been parked at least 10 minutes and that we had been on the same exit as the customer since the night before. It wasn't that we were running late.

Anyway, from what I've seen and heard Con-Way is pretty good to their teams but much harsher on their solo guys. They pay well but they are VERY strict and expect you to be perfect and never screw up. They aren't the least bit understanding when you do mess up, which as we as humans can't help but do from time to time.

Has he requested a different DM.These issues should be addressed to the dept supervisor,or manager..Souunds like that Dm is abusing there job,and has no idea that gps is off by 20 to 60 miles.it is never exact on to where the truck is actually...
