Well I just got off the phone with Christine. I think I am going to stay local for my school and then pursue my company. It looks like they have a perfect fit for me. I love getting my questions answered. It's just one step closer to a decision each time.

Hey Bobby, Red, and Aspiring Trucker (and ya'll can answer!)

What kinds of loads are you typically getting? Christine stated that the drivers are currently getting about 2200 miles per week. And when I asked her about it going up in the spring, she said she hopes so. Any thoughts?

Hey Scooter. Bobby's loads vary. Last load he had he was hauling brakes for cars. Another load he had was rolls of paper. I have no idea what his load is now but I believe it varies. They've been good to him so far so we believe that freight will pick up in Spring. We'll just have to wait and see .....

I appreciate the info. I have talked to a few people "off-board", and I think for my purposes, Conway is going to be the best fit for Linda and I. Now if they feel I am a good fit for them, huh?

PLease keep your fingers crossed for me. I am supposed to call them after I get a week into school.... but I think things went well today
<holding breath>

Thanks

Cool beans!!! Let us know what happens. You sound like a very hardworking guy and I'm sure they will hire you on. Bobby did his research just like you and decided that Con-way was the way to go. Keep us posted!!! G'luck and stay safe!!

I would say Christine is right on the mark about mileage. Some weeks are better than others, but for the most part I rarely ever see less than 2000 miles, and if I do it is because I went home. We haul a lot of different things, and we are very diverse. Con-way Freight was our largest customer at CFI, and they only accounted for 1% of our total business. Chirstine is a top knotch recruiter, and a good friend. You can rest assured she will tell you the real deal.

Hey Red -

Thanks for getting back to me!

I am glad to hear that. Changing careers can be, shall we say, rather stressing! I have heard a lot of good about her and I was under the asumption she is a straight shooter. It is good to hear that assumption is validated.

I was with CFI from Aug 2004 and just quit in July. I loved CFI and do not care much for the way Conway treated CFI drivers. I hate the home time policy where you have to be out 10 days then you can hilite to be home in the next 6 days. Could not plan anything with the family. The home time is aweful for people with families. I would be out 15-16 days take 2 days off then right back out. If I took 3 days so I could actuelly do something then I have to be out 7 days before my 10 even started for me to hilite again. For the most part my pay was good. As a solo you can advance .07 for every mile you are dispatched. The change to getting paid every week was nice. The only real problem I had was with hometime and trying to have a life outside the truck. I have an 8 yr old and a 4 yr old so changing jobs wasnt easy but I couldn't stand being away so long and being treated like a criminal cause I want to be a part of my kids lives.

Quick Question..

Hi all, I have been reading all the posts about CTL and they appear to be a great company. I have not seen anything about Teams - how many miles do they run..? and with the hometime is it 1 day for each person a week = 2 days off per seven days for teams..? only reason I ask is that how it was at our last company, we would stay out anywhere from 4 - 6 weeks and then get to take a week off.

Just curious, thanks for any info...good luck guys n gals..

Miles for teams are 5000ish. We have run into 6500 a few times, but choose not to run that hard. As far as time off goes it's earned the same way as solos, so based on being out 4-6 weeks you would earn 4-6 days off. We have stayed out for months at a time so we have banked about 20 days off each.
