Aspiring Trucker - thanks for the info, it sounds like you can choose how hard you run, I like that idea. We like 4500 - 5000 a week, much more than that and you just get too tired. As for the home time, my fiance has a young daughter that lives with his ex that he needs to see thats why we need the week off otherwise we would probably stay out longer and take our time off out there.

We are also one of those teams that when other drivers are heading south for the winter we head north, we love to run the I80/I90 routes in winter.... Now don't get me wrong we are very safe and will not run if it is too bad but we just love the winter months and all it has to offer.

Thanks again.

I-80 is quite beautiful in the winter after a hard snow. Used to live just east of Youngstown, and I can remember the beauty of snow laying on the limbs of trees as you were headed up the road.... <sigh>

Yep, it is something you never forget. I remember walking out into the woods (we lived in a semi-rural area) and laying back in a snow drift and listening to the heavy snowfalkes fall. I know, who would think you can hear it...... but you can. And all you can see around you is white.

I miss those days...... <sigh>

i have been with con-way since sept. 08. was told i would have an average of 3000 miles per week. since then i have never seen that. most weeks i only get 2000 or less. I am never late nor have no accidents. company has not been very good. I sit more then i drive which is costing me alot of money not being earned.
dont expect much from this company. detention pay is a joke.
they say get the times so we can get dtention pay for you. i have turned this in mabey 15 times and never seen a dime. lay over, lol, you have to fight to get it.

Hmmmmmm .... that's wierd . My hubby as been with them since Oct 2008 and they have been good to him. He doesn't like sitting which he well informed his dispatcher. He's got a good dispatcher and he keeps him running. There was one week where hubby got 3000 miles but he's been averaging 2200 miles per week. Hubby has also gotten detention pay and I believe layover pay as well. Really wierd. Maybe it's your dispatcher???? Not all dispatchers are great. AND we were just warned about Laredo Tx dispatchers. They aren't too hot . The other key is not to turn down short runs. Even if they are only 400 miles or less, those miles add up. Be patient and your miles will be there.

I think it is my dispatcher. which I have talked to her boss about and he said I could not change fleets. so I'm stuck.

My hubby says that isn't true. Who is your recruiter? He suggests that you contact your recruiter. Con-way has an open door policy that if you are having issues with your dispatcher that you can go above her and her boss' head (if her boss doesn't do anything about it). Your recruiter should be able to help you. Let him/her know that you are not getting the miles that you were told you'd get during orientation. That should take care of the issue.

You can change fleets at the beginning of the month. Also, for detention pay make sure you are sending form 27 on the qualcomm for detention pay. Send this anytime you are at a doc for more than three hours. We get paid whether the company collects it from the customer or not. As far as sitting goes, well that is not something the truckload industry is immune to. Sometimes it is worse than others. Be paitient, and try to maintain a great attitude through out. Changing jobs might not be the best option right now.
