Con-way new hire

I just finished orientation for con-way truckload on 2/20/09.

Can anyone tell me if it takes longer than 2 wks to get trk assigned to you and will they rent car for you to get where you have to pick up your assigned trk. I am hoping that this will be my last move to a trucking company, i would like this one to be the one I will retire from.

Last I heard from one of the reciters it was a 2-3 week wait. I dont know about the rental car, but I figured they would get a driver around your area to give you a lift to where the truck is located.

con-way

Good luck!!!!!

Last i heard they had 195 sitting in the motel waiting fo3r trucks. So instean of paying anymore layover they sent most home.
There is 3400 people and 2800 trucks. You do the math.
I have worked for con-way for a year and let me tell you something its going downhill fast.
They have taken our 401k matches away and many other things. and if you are grandfathered in on hazmat and canada they will find something to fire you on.
Its getting really hard to stay here. So good luck to you new recruits. first 5 months they kiss butt but after that watch your back.

I talked to Christine today and asked her point blank how long the wait was and was told it hase been out of wack for a while but is getting straightened out. I start training in April and have seen what is on here so I asked up front. In 2 months when I get ready it will back to normal.

I wouldn't plan on it getting back to normal to be honest... as long as there is a recession and they keep hiring it could be a while.

when we were in Joplin a week ago there were 190 people waiting on a truck.. and there are a crap load of teams in solo trucks.. they are just handing out whatever to whoever... but the freight is keeping us moving so once you get a truck its worth it.

There are 3400 drivers and 2800 trucks, means out team count is probably around 600 now.

True 401k matches are gone, you left out temporarily. What else have they taken away from you? I can't think of anything else. Every other department has had their wages frozen, but not the drivers. (Or not yet.) Ohh yeah, the corporate jet is for sale, but I did'nt get much use out of it anyway.

I have to assume that telling other drivers that the company is looking for reasons to fire drivers is a way to scare others off. I don't get it. Pick up/deliver on time, get 5.9 MPG, dont have preventable accidents, follow your load instructions, and they leave me alone.
