Any Freight Updates?

Just wondering how things are going at freight? Are you guys still really busy? Sounds like there is still market share making its way on to the docks for you guys.

Hey bud, still can't PM. Very busy at freight. You had asked about the advertising on trailers - I missed the meeting and video but here is what I understand. Proctor and Gamble is paying Freight 200 million for the entire side of a pup trailer for advertising. They will pay all costs associated with branding the trailers. Not sure how many trailers. Heard about half - and heard the entire fleet. I think it could look a little tacky but if it helps get my pay back where it should be then I'm all for it.

As far as business goes, things continue to pick up. We are seeing more of the bigger LTL shipments that were going on T/L carriers through third party logistics firms. From what I understand, the price is about the same in most cases and the service is much better. We are really short drivers at most terminals. This is all fine but I am looking forward to seeing our numbers - revenue, O/R, and profit for the second and third quarters. That will determine what we get back and possibly gain.

How has it been over on the T/L side? You guys getting decent miles?

Things are going. What's the story on the "True LTL Pricing" plan in freight?? From what I am hearing it is really helping out so far...

I think you attended more of the weekly meetings than I did..lol..

I missed that video also. From what I understand, there was a lineal foot charge on big LTL orders that made a 20' load more expensive to ship with us than a 48' load with a T/L carrier. The charge was dropped and we're now about the same price with better service. Don't quote me on that being 100% but it is something along those lines.

I'm not sure what freight is coming from where but I've never seen our facilities this congested. Remember too, we're operating with 40 less terminals than we were this time last year adding to the congestion.

Jake, on the TL side it seems mixed. I've been reading on our forums the average for solo's is 2300 to 2700 per week while teams are averaging from 3000 to 6500. a few weeks ago we got 6700 and 6500 respectively but then dropped to 2300 and 4500 the past 2 weeks. We seem to get better miles when we haul the con-way freight but when we haul other stuff with appointment unloads we have slower weeks because we have to sit and wait for the appointment time.

2300 in a week for a team is atrocious, I would have been in the phone with operations as soon as I saw that coming, but I'm one of those more vocal drivers The other weeks look good, the 4500 is so so but it's no biggie here and there. Our last 3 full weeks have been 5900, 5600, 6000.

as long as we get 2400 miles in a week we're good.. that covers our bills for that week... but we obviously prefer more. We asked our FM about the low milege weeks about 2 months ago and she said that most weeks we'll do good but she has to cycle between teams the bad weeks so she spreads the wealth. we're friends with others on our fleet and they have seen and been told the same. As long as we're not being singled out I have no problems with it.

Are things still doing really well at freight? I keep hearing a lot of talk about True LTL pricing and that it is pretty effective.

It's a zoo still. Not sure where all the freight came from but it's here. Freight operated at 92.5 last quarter and made 49 million. Another quarter under 95 we get the 401k match back - then the pay. Hope it keeps up.
