Trucking companies trashing ex employee's personal credit This thread it to send out as a warning and request to truckers:
Ir was in the news that Covenant, out of Tenn., lost more than $40M last quarter. Plenty of cash to lose. However, to make up trumped charges that employees owe them money is too much to accept.
Many former drivers, some have been gone more than 4 years, are getting phone calls and letters from billing companies (most likely owned by the trucking company itself) claiming to be owed for new or old accidents, cleaning of trucks, costs to retrieve abandoned trucks, etc This is a new angle, it's an 'anything' that will bring in thousands of dollars in revenue for them, and drivers, concerned with DAC reports, Equifax, etc. are paying out.
Covenant is not alone - others are doing the same - some are confusing names, giving out wrong social security numbers and harrasing drivers who gave their good bye's 2 or 3 jobs ago. Add the names of companies known to you, I also know of C.R. England sending out phony 3 yr. old bills.

If this is a legitimate story, please provide the link.
Thanks!!!
Many companies charge for accidents, training, broken contracts.... The collection efforts can span several years. This money can add up as a loss for these companies. They are allowed to list their losses in their financial reports.
If an individual does not agree with the charges that are proposed by a trucking company, then they would need to dispute the claim in writing to the company and seek legal aid. JMHO

My thought would be, if the driver can has documentation (receipts, cancelled checks, etc.) that he can send a copy to these to the company, or more likely the collections agency that the company is using, and ask that the item be removed from his credit report. Also, it wouldn't hurt to threaten a defimation of character suit if the item isn't removed within 30 days.
Along with sending the reciepts to the company, the driver should also send a letter to the credit bereau (Equifax, TransUnion, etc.) and explain that the item is on his report in error, and ask for it to be removed.
Sounds to me that some companies are starting to play the game like a credit card company. Bottom line for both situations, CYA...no need to explain much further.Last edited by beancounter; 06.22.2010 at 09.36 AM. Reason:: grammar correction

Trucking company's trashing drivers
now ill follow up on this warning and as I've said many times before all trucking company's are the same .
none of them look out for the driver they look out for the company and if is for there benefit they will lie about you in a heart beat and do so without a thought of you the driver at all.
what can you do about it ? not one #### thing and all these company's are getting worse not better and with the coming driver shortage it can only get worse.
now i no all drivers can't drive there own trucks some because they just don't want to some because they can afford it , there are many reasons but if your stuck driving for a company in this day an age in particular with all the new kindergarten rules coming up you might find it useful to have an attorney on stand buy your going to need it or have your name and reputation slammed all over the place and it could ruin your Carree.
things are going to get a lot worse then they are now big brother has finally got envolved in the trucking business and he is not going to go away. anytimethe goverment gets envolve in free enterprise it only gets worse not better .
have an attorney on stand by , don't let them ruin you.
those that think the new laws are good. wait about another 18 months i thin you will change your mond . enjoy the good times ahead. and good luck. southernpride

PS. Person identifying himself as an employee, lover of Suburbans, offered to purchase a Sububan parked on Covenant Property. Release was sent, paperwork, caller offered driver's license as I.D. = it is almost one year and not one cent has been received.
If I post the name and address, anyone interested in recouping the money?

This article is from 02/03/2009, so it is not the one that the OP was referring to.
Snipped...However, to make up trumped charges that employees owe them money is too much to accept.

The bogus charges to the drivers by this company or any of the others mentioned were what were in question.
