Hi, Can anybody give me the basics about Covenant. Is it worth going to as a student driver, do they treat you good, is the pay and miles good for a solo driver, is the equipment good, can you take the truck home with you, what speed are the trucks set to and do they run you all over. Thank you and be safe. :biggrin_25525:

Not trying to be smart, but did you not want to take the time to read the other thread, or you read it, and did not want to believe what you read, and are now looking for information more to your liking.

The other thread has post from several Covenant drivers who all have had different experiences there. Most any question concerning Covenant can be answered by taking the time to read that thread.

There is a lot to read, and a lot can be skipped over, but it is worth the time if you really want a truthful snapshot of this company, and are willing to listen to the truth.

They are geared towards teams and the solos get what is left over. That is what I heard, but that was from less than reliable sources. That said there are pros and cons to any company and you hafta find the one that fits you best

Hi All: On 4/20/2009 at the 205E/580E split in NorCal there was a fatal accident that involved a Covenant owned truck driven by an asian male and there was also a rider in the cab. General facts as I know them are as follows:

Covenant trucker meant to travel on 205E, but got off on 580E. He then swung his truck across both lanes ( to the point where the truck was about perpindicular with the lanes at a 90 degree angle) which blocked both lanes. Several cars swerved off the road to avoid the truck as the lanes were completely blocked.

A motorcyclist who was traveling well within the speed limit tried to avoid the truck, but couldnt. The driver slammed into the area where the cab and trailer meet.

The Covenant driver kept going after the collision into the gore point. As he did this he ran over the motorcyclist and crushed his helmet and head, killing him.

People on the scene said the driver, an asian male, did not seem upset or in shock, and made no attempt to help the motorcyclist. He simply said "I guess I'm going to jail."

The passenger of the truck was heard telling CHP "I told him to keep going to the next exit, but he didnt listen to me."

I am a private investigator working for the family that the motorcyclist, Herb Saxton, left behind. He has 4 beautiful kids and a wife.

I am trying to find out from someone in the know about Covenant what their training practices are, who they hire, etc... I have seen they are not a very popular company here, and i would like to know why.

Any help would be greatly appreciated by the family. Please contact me (anonymously if need be) at (925) 849-5025

    THANK YOU!

JayD, maybe you could p/m some of the people who posted on the covenant threads for info. People may be gun shy about replying on an open forum.

Oh, I didnt expect anyone to post a response to this on the forum. I was going to do what you suggested but do not have enough posts to send pm's, and didnt want to litter the place with 50 b/s posts just to up my total to be able to pm.

So, i left my phone number instead. also, my email ishouldhavereadtheforumrulesiagreedtoabidebywhenisignedup@truckersreport maybe that would help.

    Thanks, Drifter1948

Look for some other threads here on this site about Covenant.

The other thing to do is go to other trucking forums! I used to know someone who worked there and have spoken to hundreds of their drivers while over the road. They suck.

They used to do the old JB Hunt thing: allow a driver recently out of training be a trainer if they thought the driver was capable. Usually, they have a senior driver act as a trainer.

Just because someone volunteers to be a trainer, does not mean they would be a good trainer!

Here's a bit of info, that doesn't need a Covenant person to explain.

The "passenger" was 1 of 3 people.

#1 An authorized passenger. IE Wife, relative, etc

#2 Part 2 of the dumb and dumber "team". In which case, if this person was up front and advising the driver. His logs need to reflect "on duty" not driving.

#3 The actual trainer/mentor, who just admitted having NO control over the person he was supposed to be training. I doubt this was the case though...as a good trainer would have corrected the issue before it got to that point. Key word....good trainer.

Could also be a #4, Dance69. An unauthorized passenger, which has been known to happen on occasion.

So is JayD conducting an investigation for the family's attorney for the lawsuit? Do not misconstrue as I am a motorcyclist,an avid one at that, but I am unclear on the motive(s) as the CHP obviously have the suspect/driver,charged him w/all the charges they can, conducted their own exhaustive investigation into the accident to arrive at their conclusions and all else that could and should be done.
What more info is needed to file the suit? I feel clueless here so if anyone can enlighten me,please do.
I feel horrible about the dead motorcyclist, empathise w/the loss and grief of the family and feel that the truck driver will have the book thrown at him,and should, but can not grasp the need for all the additional info.
Covenant will settle out of court regardless w/the family and with the car drivers that ran off the road to avoid the truck and all of it.
I just do not think that covenant's training practices are in question rather the decisions of the two people in the truck at the time of the unnecessary accident, which is why they are called accidents.
NO i did not train at covenant, have no dog in the hunt and actually never attended a driving school.Perhaps that which JayD is attempting to do is just beyond my level of comprehension as it boils down to the two that were in the truck at the time of the accident and their decision(s).Actually the driver's decision.NOT covenants. Not the dead motorcyclist. The only exception I can think of is if one of the two occupants were in the truck illegally, the driver had improperly logged/had no logs/?,was the passenger/co driver logged properly, etc.,none of which in the long run played a role in the horribly wrong decision made by the now ex-covenant driver.
Also,so what if the driver is an asian male? he made a stupid decison that cost someone their life.Obviously he spoke English well enough for whomever to hear what he said about going to jail and understanding what the asian driver said so not having a grasp of the English language is a moot point.
JayD is trying to find out about covenant's hiring practices. Is he inferring that covenant hires illegal types that should NOT BE HERE IN THE U.S. to begin with? IF so,then hopefully JayD can get the federal government on the case and rightfully so.
If so it sounds like yet another reason to CLOSE OUR BORDERS to all but the people that come here via the legal route but that is another topic entirely which goes back to my lack of comprehension of JayD's intentions.
