bending labor laws? utah is not a right to work state, or you would eventually be conscripted into the teamsters union, and forced to pay dues to their overglorified temporary agencies. i was working construction in Wisconsin, a right to work state. my boss was paying me 17 dollars an hour for operating a piece of equipment on a state funded job. the dozer i ran commanded 41 dollars an hour. i got shafted for about 25 bucks an hour. it didn't matter how good i was, he screwed me in everything he could, til i quit. good work ethics for him meant you needed to be punished. i got things DONE!
i now work in a job that is paid in performance, not whining. i run my tush off, and i get paid, WELL. i don't pussyfoot around and gripe about things being hard. if it don't kill me, i'll just get stronger.
First amendment rights? you are talking here, correct? do they tell you you are forbidden from posting an opinion here? methinks not. here is your first amendment right, on this page. posted for all to see.
open your eyes, driver. the industry has to recruit some million or so drivers to wind up with less than 100,000 that are viable for otr running. this frieght has to MOVE, not sit in a truckstop. this ain't no nine to five and drink a six-pack at the end of the day, this is a service. its not for everybody. i'm not cut out for factory work, i hate it. i can handle this because i'm not an average joe. but i do know how to grab life by the horns and make it work.

I'm not starting a union vs anti-union discussion... but "the dozer i ran commanded 41 dollars an hour"?

The dozer, just like a truck, doesn't "command" anything when it comes to pay - the operator/driver does, and it is based solely on that person's experience.

Not real sure where you are trying to come from here Mainframe. I clearly stated that Utah is an "at will" state. That means that you can be fired, or laid off, or any other term they want to use for any, all and absolutely no reason at all. And it happens.

And as far as you trying to turn this into a union/non-union thread, well, I guess with the amount of hijacking done here, that shouldn't be too much of a big thing. I've worked jobs that were union, and I've worked the same jobs that were not union. I didn't really give a #### one way or the other, as long as I got what was coming to me. And you always have the choice of moving on to another company.

We were discussing CRE here, and they are based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Which is why this came up at all as far as "at will."

What your boss's overhead was. Don't know how you were getting screwed by him at $17 an hour. One thing I have learned since my trucking days and since I have been a sub contractor is that you have to consider your overhead as you are paying your help.

Hi hows everyone doing? Just curious what ever became of fawne? Man does time fly, last time we posted here in this thread we were just students. Well im sure yall want to know how it went for us as no one ever updates.

Soo we are still with england. We signed a 17 month flease on a 2010 volvo 780. We are 14 months into that lease its up in march of next year. Its had its ups and its downs here at england. The pay aint that great, 4,000 dollar a month truck along with the 200 dollar a week insurance to cover THEIR cargo is murder :biggrin_2551:. But we knew all this going in and decided to make the best of it :) even with the high overhead we still make an ok check just got to keep it moving. You have to be business minded to make it here at england well on second thought if you were business minded you probably wouldnt have come :biggrin_25517: lol. Theres ways to make money here but it aint easy. Keep them wheels turning, learn to work that fuel, GET OFF THE FUEL CAP, and get on the fuel rebate. Mainframe are you in that prostar with the transformer logo on it? Well we are out dont want to highjack just checking in with yall. Anyone with questions or comments please feel free to ask us.

:biggrin_25523:I drove for CRE. I became a Ph 2 and later Ph 1 instructor. Like many, I leased a truck from Horizon Leasing (the greatest rip off ever) and almost bought a truck from them as well. As hard working and efficient as I was, I had no life with no hometime. I soon realized the driver managers (DM's) wern't there to help me at all. They're battling for their own survival being disposed of at a greater rate than the drivers.

BTW. Haveyou heard about weekly deductions called :biggrin_25510:Variable Miles (.14 cpm) Did EQUINOX deduct them as an expense on your tax return?.... or as earnings? Hmmmm..!

Your coment makes sense but only on the surface. However, lets look at the real power of a company who can claim in today's economy that it provides paid training, tranportation, housing, jobs, leasing and ownership options in a diverse learning environment. Are you kidding me? Drivers don't have a voice nor a chance and that's the truth. The department of labor and/or transportation in the state of Utah simply loves CRE and will stop at nothing to help them dodge any complaint from a "disgruntle driver".

:biggrin_25513:CRE simply mastered how to get around the law and pay employees below national minimum wage while moving freight accross the nation at a team driver speed. The competition does not stand a chance. The benefits of having their own Driver Training Centers are apparently endless. The U.S. government agencies have looked the other way and no investigations have been made to my knowledge.

:biggrin_25525:Most student-drivers at CRE don't even get paid their full weekly stipend even when they send their Daily Mac 53. It's all deducted in the Utah office to make budget (or to pocket) and portrayed to the student as a "minor error" which btw never gets corrected. Your training coordinator (TC) will ignore your calls and even be rude to you suggesting a possible suspention.

The driving instructors are always broke and do not make enough money to eat. In fact, they always end up buying food for the students which contributes to bad relations inside the truck. Drivers don't have time and fear filing a complaint against CRE being blackballed and never being able to drive again as it does happen at CRE.

:yes2557:BBB cannot not match the resources of CR England's public relations campaign nor will they fracture their religious ties/relations and loyalty commonly shared at the Church of Latter Day Saints in Utah. CR England is quietly known the Mormon Mafia and drivers do not have a chance at CRE except to gain some experience and leave before it's too late.

:biggrin_255:According to some, ENGLAND stands for - "Every New Graduate Lasts About Ninety Days." Surprised?
