Can someone please explain to me what a variable mileage payment is?

The variable mileage payment is .14c for all new lease trucks.
This applies to all dispatched miles and is charged by the leasing company.
So if you run 2000 miles it will be # .14 X 2000 = $280
Or 3000 miles would be # .14 X 3000 = $420.
It can be got down to .06 with time.
This is in addtion to the truck payment that is about $500.00 a week.

lol its a use fee. You use a truck of theirs that you are leasing and you need to pay them for the right of you to try to own it.

Payments from variable mileage also go to pay the planners, DMs and other support staff that get you the freight. This was just covered in orientation and seems to make sense to me. England isn't going to pay all these people just out of what company trucks run, so the variable mileage goes toward this same purpose.

Is this good for the driver eventually or what?

They (England) book the freight, assign it to the driver and route it to cap fuel costs at $1.25 per gallon. So, I'd say that, yes, it's good for the driver. It's 14 cents per mile, but your time is spent driving rather than looking for loads or paying someone else to call around looking to book freight for you. Plus, if you take advantage of the Awards program you can do things such as lower your variable mileage payment (down - I think - to .08 cpm) and get free bookkeeping/accounting services for your biz.

I'm not saying that it's for everyone OR that it's the best thing going. I'm just saying that it makes sense to me. After all, if you were to lease (or buy) a truck somewhere else and not go through England, you'd still end up either paying someone else to book your freight, or spending your own time (which is money) doing it yourself.

Besides, having your fuel capped at $1.25 per gallon more than makes up for the variable mileage.

I just read somewhere on here that they have done away with the awards program anybody know if this is true or not???

I also heard that they have changed the pay plan for the l/o? Just wondering how much on here is true or not it was something about how you used to get up to 1.53/mi and now the most they pay is .95/mi ?!
