| Got into Burns Harbor last night. I got a qualcomm yesterday saying to get to a yard asap for upgrade. This is five weeks into phase two. Also got to run a few solo loads when my trainer took hometime, so that helped my paycheck considerably. I've talked to several others I went to school with and some of them have also been called in for early upgrade. The word is that England has too many trucks right now, but I have no idea how true that is in terms of being the reason for early upgrades. A friend of mine from the SLC school had quit 5 or 6 days into phase one (issues with his trainer.) He just finished orientation with Werner and now has 300 hours to drive during training before oing solo. He seems happy with his decision to go there so far. |

I'm gonna catch a razzing for this I'm sure, but Stevens Transport hires newbies and they have their own training school. But just remember, it is what you make of it. They pay .26¢ per mile and will allow you to solo as a company driver last I checked.![]() It doesn't really matter who you start with, the trick is putting up with the b##ls##t long enough to get the experience to move on to something more lucrative.

| Hi Ed, I've been reading your posts since the beginning, my husband is also 5th week of phase II and we are waiting on that qualcomm. You were lucky you got to take solo loads, mine had to sit the 3 1/2 days in Mich. with his trainer for hometime. Also money no different on this end. Mostley solo runs instead of team runs. Keep us posted on what happens next, because we are right there, Husband thinking of Lease and phase II trainer and me going on the truck with him. Thanks |

| Sorry, did I say too many trucks "on the road"? Or did I say just, "too many trucks?" Maybe they had too many trucks... sitting on the lot. Hmmm. Anyway,I did also say that "the word is..." It's not as though I had inside information. I do know this. They have even more trucks sitting around now that many IC's have turned theirs in and quit. That I saw with my own eyes at both Salt Lake and Burns Harbor. By the way, for anyone upgrading out of Phase 2... don't do it at Burns Harbor, especially if you plan to lease. |

| Nearly all trucks are 13 speeds. Shifting them is wicked easy too. Its basically a 10 speed with a extra button. First gear is so low you dont need to use it. So it is 2nd through 5th in a H pattern. Pop the high-low go into 7th through 10th. The extra button is a splitter gear. It drops the tach and allows you a cruising gear (it is only used on the high side). So figure it as a 4 speed with a granny gear on the side. Some of the company trucks have 9 speeds, it is the same as the 13, cept no splitter. Most of the local dump trucks use the same tranny. Go to WarnerTrucks.com and look at the Century Freightliners there, these are mostly the lease trucks for sale from CRE. This is how most of the centurys are specced out.

| Shifting transmission Thanks. I am headed to SLC this weekend for CDL training. Appreciate all the updates/posts. I have been scoring over 90% on all the practice tests online and looking at the shifting patterns/backing skills on youtube. But I know it can only be repitition practice to learn how to shift through a crowded highway/city street.. Everything on here helps. Thanks Again Everyone..! |

| The SLC trainer trucks are nicer than the Burns Harbor trucks. The SLC trucks have a rear door for the trainees to leave by. Also their school is far nicer than Burns Harbor. Burns Harbor you need to ride a cramped bus to get to school. At least at SLC its right downstairs. Heck every thing is downstairs from the sleep area. Real nice place at SLC. LOL you will miss it when on the road.
