Yep,I know what you mean. That opti-idle thing can get alittle frustrating.I usualy just set the temp all the way up or down depending on season. Then I control the inside temp by using the thermostat and fan speed.I just let the engine idle all night. It camoflaged the other trucks noises.

Three- you can get hometime as long as your not putting in for it within only 3 days to be there unless its an emergency. They need time to get you there.( advance notice is always good) Oh and one other thing I am ######glad that Crete is the way they are about their logs, because it makes us one of the safest companies out there and since D.O.T. knows our reputation they don't bother us and thats a good feeling. The companies that don't care about your logs are the ones that won't have any place in the future because they will be wiped out. I garantee in the next 5 to 10 years you won't have to worry about paper logs and trying to cheat cuz there will be no way to do so. As far as the Optimal Idle with the prices of fuel be prepared it will be on all trucks, its just a matter of time.
Oh and one more thing they don't check on you every month, with over 7000 trucks you think they do that? The only time they do that is if your logs have not been good and doing this if you get a good audit will help you lose the points that accumulate from poor logs.
Ok I have said enough.... I sure hope you found a job that will be good to you as Crete could have been.
Sincerely;
BettyAnn

You are ablolutely correct. Crete is by far the best company I've worked for. I worked there two years and they got me home every time I ever wanted to be there, and I took my hometime in six to ten different places with them. I have family that live in Canada and they let me take the truck up there for a whole week for xmas. The miles were great, equipment was well maintained, and if there's plenty of freight in your area you get up to three load offerings to choose from, and that would happen probably 75% of the time. Any drivers out there looking for a good company, I would definitely go to work for Crete. I left them because I got off the road and was burnt out with driving and I've had too many jobs since then. I have a friend there that made $80,000 last year, but he works his ### off.

I had problems there at times, too

I had problems at Crete at times, but only with certain individuals. I got past those log jams and made it the best job I ever had. Well, close to the best, anyway. This was because the other people there made me see that Crete was one of the best OTR companies, if not THE best, in trucking. When you're surrounded by a lot of good people at a company, its easy to ignore the "Oscar the grouches".

What I'm talking about here is why I disliked Swift so much. ####### insiders were as common there as raindrops. Even the shop guys copped attitudes and looked down on drivers. It was no surprise I got such bad treatment while at Swift, such as being the sucker who took the NE loads out of Richmond that had been dropped by experienced whiners, and the guy who took the Richmond to Baltimore roundie boundies and got paid for 2/3 of the miles I actually drove.

One bad person at Crete wouldn't deter me from going there to work again. Even 100 bad insiders wouldn't keep me out. This is because for every bad insider, there are about 99 good ones at that company, at least that was what I saw while driving for CCC.

Yeah I drive a Swift truck
And that means one thing
It means she's slow
It's a typical company truck
It's just all show and no go

I'm gettin' passed by Yella
And even Overnite
I'm gettin' passed by ever' body in sight
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

No, my hometown's nowhere in sight
And if you think I'm pissed off
You're right
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

Love pissing off those trucking company insiders.

did someone actually bring up werner....

it takes much to amuse me most of the time.... to this day it still makes me laugh when i recall the werner recruiters visit to my school. talk about a major lacking in the integrity field. when i visit with werner drivers at stops, i feel so relieved that i chose.... hell anyone but them. it saddens me to see a company thrash there folks the way they do. i hear from so many different people, reguarding so many different avenues of carpet bombing thier people.... that i seriously wonder how long thier company will support the "chain of command" they have, and how they run things.
werner folks, keep on keeping on i suppose- no job is bright and shining, but hats off to you and your integrity to your obligations there. stay rollin' stay safe!

Well, Lou died two years ago so hope that news makes you feel better. He was my manager for 2 years and recruited me away from Shaffer to run a dedicated route that fit my needs better, I never had a single problem with him. Um, managers are PAID to bug you about idling time, get over it. Let's see, YOU took off time you didn't earn and put that on him, hmmmm.

Someone mentions BettyAnn in this thread is a recruiter, I'd be curious why her info is so wrong. Crete doesn't have as large a fleet as she says, and their log audits certainly DO come more frequently now that they are spurred by a computer program that flags hours of service violations based on qcom GPS and engine datastreams. Audits haven't been random for the past year.

As I've found out this week, other company drivers are more than willing to attack drivers who make criticisms of the firm. There are plenty of spies within the Acklie companies. But even I draw the line at irresponsible slams.

not all drivers are the sam

I currently work for crete, and I have to agree...Not all drivers get use to opti-idle. When I have to use it, I can't sleep, I get a bunch of 15-20 minute naps. Even if I don't wake all the way up, it does the same damage as they claim sleep apnea. I have worked for several companies over the last 12 years, a few used it, couldn't sleep there either. I actually prefer them being anal about logs... It protects you and the company if some fool runs into you. If your log is right, you aren't immediately blamed, if it's wrong, regardless of actual fault, you will be charged with the accident because if your logs were correct, you wouldn't be there. My biggest complaint is the equipment, underpowered budget junk. I have had 5 trucks in 4 years(1 new the rest used rejected by other drivers), one was worth driving. This one is in the shop every 10-14 days, and they won't get me out of it. Now they have reprogrammed their trucks so you have to lug it in 10th gear, they have governed 9th to 55 mph, but not turned the power up so you can grab 10th and go... If you are on even the slightest hill, or going up even a small overpass, you lug along at 55, blocking traffic worse than usual.
If you are going to work for crete, good luck, I have put plans into motion to work elsewhere, even if it means taking a pay cut.

There's no comparison. I went to school here in Lincoln with a lot of people who were going to Crete. The company is outstanding compared to what I've heard about most of the other big ones that take students. The main complaints I've heard are the lack of hometime and the required fueling in small increments at Pilots. I heard their benefits are pretty good.

The thing that bugged me was that the guy from Hunt, their subsidiary, asked me to apply. Okay, so I apply.....................................not one word from them???

I think they want you to call and kiss their butt? I was offered by two other companies that advertised hometime and went with one of them.
