never sleep again at CRETE

I just quit crete after 8 months. I quit for 3 reasons. 1st, their trucks have the opti-idle cab thermostat. I just could not get a good nights sleep. Every 15 to 30 minutes, an alarm will sound for 5 seconds, then the truck starts up. Wakes me up every time. You will spend alot of time when you are tired messing with the opti-idle to stay comfortable. Good Luck. Covenant has the same system. I couldn't stand it any more. 2nd, they are anal about logbooks. Have to be within 10 miles of where you log. No back logging. They audit every driver every couple months with the satalite. Have to log highway mile marker if the town looks farther away than 10 miles. 3rd, they don't let you fuel anyplace accept where they say without calling in. Then your boss is likely to say no. Secretaries usually give you another stop. On weekends it's hard to get ahold of someone to help you with getting another fuel location. They have good pay, good miles, nice people, and good equipment. Too bad, cause if you can't sleep it just doesn't work. They are not very good about getting you home when you need it, although you can stay longer at home if you need it with no problem, especially over the weekend. No waiting for loads, and they won't send you a load till you are ready for it. Also, I wanted to be a trainer, and you need 2 years experience, and 6 months with them. Also, no log violations, or tickets. I always got log violations, so i would never be able to train. I quit US Xpress to go with crete. I liked US Xpress and am going back to them. I only quit because I thought i could make more money at crete. I made less at crete cause i was a trainer at usx. any questions u can email me at []

Re: never sleep again at CRETE

Let me preface this by saying that I do not, nor have I ever driven for Crete. I just want to offer rebuttals on this post as I tend to disagree with the author's reasoning behind the post. It's nothing personal, 1casey05, it just appears that we are seeing things in a different light.

A lot of companies have this system to conserve on fuel. Personally it doesn't botherm e at all. Takes a little getting used to, but it's not that bad really. In your defense though, I know of several drivers who feel the same as you on those systems.

What's so bad about that? If you do things the way you are supposed to be doing them, then this should not be a problem. I can't say I agree with the highway marker deal since you are always in some town, county, parrish, etc. and it's not that hard to ask around to find out where you are.

This is a computer generated routing system that sets you up to fuel at the place with the best price on diesel. Now I honestly hate the system, because it can be innacurate on judging when you need to get fuel. Also it does not take into account things like load weights, hills, idling, etc. It's one of the few knocks I have on Roehl.

That's a heck of a lot more than most companies can say.

That does suck. It looks like there may be some issues with the way they plan drivers on loads.

That sounds pretty good too.

I have to agree with Crete on this one. There is a lot more to training than just showing someone how to drive. A trainer should be a mentor with experience on doing things successfully within that particular company. Also it wouldn't speak much of their training program if they allowed folks who cannot log properly/drive legally to be the example for new drivers.

Re: never sleep again at CRETE

Werner says after I work for them for 6 months I can be a trainer. That is the main reason I am going with Crete.

God help the motoring public.......

Hey do me a favor will ya? Paint a big orange stripe on the front bumper, like NASCAR does for their rookie drivers, when you start training. Give us little warning so we can get out of your way...

Just for you I will find a orange stripe that is magnetic and place it on the front
Are you even on the road anymore?

Sounds like this disgruntled driver posted once and then bailed---back in Oct! I agree, you will get use to opti-idle, all be it I kept waking up in the middle of the night when came on and open the curtains to see 'who' was driving (ha ha).

Also my opinions about trucking co.s using the Qualcomm to 'beat their drivers' is found in recent post: Qualcomm does not 'Help' drivers!!

Re: never sleep again at CRETE

wow....sounds to me like another complainer. (1case05) Some of what you said is wrong...let me point them out. One- If you need a fuel solution you will get it. two- You can be a trainer after 1 yr. of service with Crete (as long as your logs are good.) Three- you can get hometime as long as your not putting in for it within only 3 days to be there unless its an emergency. They need time to get you there.( advance notice is always good) Oh and one other thing I am ######glad that Crete is the way they are about their logs, because it makes us one of the safest companies out there and since D.O.T. knows our reputation they don't bother us and thats a good feeling. The companies that don't care about your logs are the ones that won't have any place in the future because they will be wiped out. I garantee in the next 5 to 10 years you won't have to worry about paper logs and trying to cheat cuz there will be no way to do so. As far as the Optimal Idle with the prices of fuel be prepared it will be on all trucks, its just a matter of time.
Oh and one more thing they don't check on you every month, with over 7000 trucks you think they do that? The only time they do that is if your logs have not been good and doing this if you get a good audit will help you lose the points that accumulate from poor logs.
Ok I have said enough.... I sure hope you found a job that will be good to you as Crete could have been.
Sincerely;
BettyAnn
