Why would they make you buy their machine?
Fortunately, I have Blue Cross and I have everything done at the MAYO CLINIC, which, I'm sure is very pricey, but I only pay the $20 copay.

My doctor told me if people can't deal with the cpap machine, a new alternative is a "brace" on your teeth while you sleep.....that didn't look comfortable either!

Is this common with all carriers? I'm looking into Crete and have been on CPAP for 15 years and just got a new machine last week. I've only slept 2 nights in those 15 years without it. Sure don't see the point in being forced to buy a new machine.

They finally tested me, and yes, I ended up with a cpap machine, but I accept I have that problem, I'm sleeping better with the machine.

I do not like the way they force you to use sleep point, and they sold me a machine before I even saw the doctor.

Here's the way it happened for me, at Wilmer.

Show up at 8:45 PM for the test.

Get wired up and in bed by maybe 10:30 pm.

The attendant woke me up at around 2 am, said I have sleep apnea, and hooked me up to a cpap machine.

Then they wake you up again around 5:30, to end the test.

At 8 am, you go back to the lab, and they sell you the cpap machine, then LATER that day, you have a few minute visit with the doctor, across town.

How they can get away with this, I don't know...but, if you work for Crete, they do WTF they want to you.

So, after all this BS, later in the day, they tell me that since I have now a disease, my DOT physical is no good and I have to get a new physical..which they sent me to get, late in the day, around 4 PM.

I get back from the DOT physical with only a 1 year card, and my truck is still in the shop...where they are hooking up the wiring for the inverter I will need for the cpap machine. The truck comes out as the shop closes for the day....and it's just a #### cigarrette lighter plug added to the bunk area, and the inverter is a $20 type you can buy at the truckstop.

So, I have had maybe 3-4 hours of sleep in the last 36 hours, and now have to sleep in the truck that night, using the cpap machine, and upload the data in the morning showing i used it BEFORE I can go back to work.

I ended up spending almost 3 days at Wilmer ...then, they give me a load that picks up late at night after being 'on hold' all day.

I don't worry about living with the CPAP machine, I worry about the additional red tape associated with it, with CRETE. If you don't upload that you are using it 70% of the time, they pull your DOT card.

Crete is testing EVERY driver and it has nothing to do with any recommendation from a doctor about that specific driver. They are just doing it in case they get sued, again.

For the record....I've never been tested. I called their bluff, and informed them I would be happy to take a test, but I have a perfectly good machine with a readable card and have been a faithful CPAP user for over four years (at the time of my hiring...it's now over five years). Apparently, they caved, because they later told me I do not need a sleep study, and they have never asked to read my card.

Proof, at least to me, that Crete's program is dollar oriented, not driver- or safety-oriented.

Crete's Sleep Apnea program is BS. Period.

and they are a nightmare to deal with, once they sell you the machine. I'd tell them to stuff it, but I'd lose my last check or two, paying for the #### cpap machine.

I do use the #### thing. I've had a cold or allergies kicking up the last week or so, and have had trouble using it all night, although I am sleeping well. I was passed on a notice from 'safety' that 'you are not using the cpap machine and if you don't start using it...you will be put out of service.'

    I have been using it.

I'm afraid to tell them I have a cold, or they will send me to get another #### DOT physical, and put me out of service until I get one.

I wish we could force these desk jockeys to go through what they put us through.

I had a sleep study done at my local hospital and the cost was around $3500.00
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea so had to get a cpap.
It cost around $1000.00 for it and the set of supplies. Supply
cost varries each month depending on what you need. Don't
know exact cost for supplies cause my wife has great ins but
I'm sure it is between $30-$200 depanding on what I order.
