Hey ya'll, I plan to start with crete at the end of october. I heard that when you are out with a trainer the truck does not move 24rs. What I mean by that is that the trainee drives while the trainer sleeps or vice versa. I just would like to know what to expect when I go out with my trainer. Any info will help.

    Thank ya

The first half the trainer is right next you in the passenger seat and will take over if he needs to in a situation you are uncomfortable with. My trainer kept telling me he wanted to drive and I found out later your training miles count towards your mile totals in your first year that go towards your raise. As a result I was in the hole from the get go. You need just under 10000 per month for your raise and my average coming out of training was 9100.

Your second four weeks you will be asked to go Super Single or Solo (???? I can never remember). Not quite as intense as team driving but the truck can move 19 hours per day. The trainers love it because they get paid all your miles.

I found out from another trainee that he just refused to do it and I would probably take that route if I had to do it again. My trainer made it sound like I could really get him out of a bind if we racked up the miles so I took up the cause. While talking to another driver that had been through the 8 weeks training, he said his trainer used the same strategy to get him to go through it too. Lol. 4500 to 5000 miles a week at .47 a mile. You add it up. the only times he has called me was an accidental butt call. ha ha. Not worth it.

Kind of like the equipment. Lots of good trainers out there, but you could get the nut case like I did. Roll of the dice. My first trainer was awesome. My second, I should have just got out of the truck. Find out there policy if you want to get out of the truck. I think you can just request a new trainer nk questions asked.....not sure.

Did not think refusing to do the "super single" was an option and my understanding is that ALL of the truck miles go towards the trainers pay though miles the trainee drives could also be counted towards the traniees pay scale.

Wonder what they do if you refuse the last 4 weeks of OTR with the trainer.

According to the driver who never did super single it is up to the trainer if they want to do it. They then get permission from driver development. He made his case and they never did it. The frainer said he had to see him drive at night and for long periods of time and he got that done over the course of the eight weeks. He also got back to Lincoln a day or two early. He assumed the trainer was anxious to get someone who would do it.

Yeah. He completed the training and then went into team driving. Go figure.

Myself and another trainee are starting with Crete on Oct 14th with orientation at Wilmer TX. Looking forward to finally getting on the road after 4 weeks of school. If anyone is looking for a good school I would recommend Continental Trucking School in Dallas Tx, great instructors!
