hello everybody. i just posted in the shaffer forum, and wanted to post here too. i'm a student driver, over 1/2 way through school. i'm interested in shaffer / crete. is it worth the extra cent(s) per mile to join shaffer over crete? i plan on joining the national otr fleet after training. excited to start my driving career! any thoughts / suggestions welcome.

    mje Thanks this.

Between the two, I'd stay on the Crete side. Solos seem to do better overall. I have been with Crete for a little over two years.

    Good luck!

Most of their freight is east of I35.

Stick with Crete over Shaffer. Better miles and more drop/hooks outweighs the extra penny. And if you live in PA you can count on getting plenty of east coast freight... we have a TON of crap running in/out of PA.

thanks. i keep hearing the same thing, crete over shaffer. i know there's some happy shaffer drivers, but the majority keep saying to choose crete. i already passed my hazmat endorsement, so as soon as the feds clear me, i'll have hazmat on my cdl when i finish school. i'm guessing my hazmat will be better suited for crete anyhow.

one thing i'm confused about... my crete / shaffer recruiter is saying they don't allow inverters anymore. i guess i don't need one since all i really want to be able to do is have a coffee maker, and some kind of cooler / fridge so i don't have to use an ice chest. she said i can plug those right into the truck...i'll be ok with using a coffee maker and small cooler or fridge right? i want to pack and cook a lot of my own food, which reminds me, can i have a small microwave too? can all those be used in their trucks?

Crete/Shaffer no longer require hazmat but will still reimburse you for it so save your receipts. Have you verified that your school is on the list of Crete/Shaffer approved schools?

Does Crete pull Shaffer trailers? Likewise, does Shaffer pull Crete trailers? Do the drivers interchange trailers?
If so, this would make the drivers for both Crete and Shaffer much more versatile.

What part of Pennsylvania are you talking about, or are you referring to the whole state of Pennsylvania?

yep, my school is approved, thanks for asking. i realize they no longer require hazmat, but i figured getting all my endorsements was a better way to create more opportunity
